Slaughter
Hey, we're slaughtering each other at the Palpatine page! Join us!
- I think you a little misunderstand the concept of a wiki. The idea is not to "slaughter each other", but to reach consensus and collaboratively improve articles. You could, for example, create new articles, or add informative content to existing articles, or do some cleanup. In these cases, there's usually no need to discuss anything - be bold! However, when making controversial changes, such as calling Palpatine "the most powerful Dark Side practitioner ever", it's best to discuss changes the matter on the talk page first. And if the majority is against you (such as with Palpatine's birth date), please resign yourself, don't disrupt the article. Take a break. Look at other articles. It's an encyclopedia, so it's best to add factual information, not introduce ambiguity. - Sikon 03:42, 21 Aug 2005 (UTC)
- I find something that I consider wrong in an encyclopedia people can access freely. I feel I HAVE to correct it. I was adding information in articles, updating them, improving them, until I found what I saw as a mistake. I corrected it. I was corrected in turn. I understood I was doing a mistake. I then turned my "?" to a "84 BBY (?)". But people wanted it their way or else and now I am not allowed to do so. I perfectly understand the concept of Wiki. Anyone can edit it. Now I can't correct the mistake I see? Is it me that does not understand the concept of Wiki now? --Master Starkeiller 14:16, 21 Aug 2005 (UTC)
Your constant edits
I'm afraid you didn't understand what I said earlier: discuss the changes, and then make them after consensus is reached. Don't just state your opinion and then change the article to fit your personal opinion. I do appreciate that you've signed up and are saying things on talk pages, but please wait for consensus before making those changes. – Aidje talk 17:00, 9 Aug 2005 (UTC)
--Starkeiller 02:23, 21 Aug 2005 (UTC)And who decides when a consensus is reached? That's what I'm afraid of...
- Listen, I understand that you are trying to preserve Palpatine's mystique. I respect that. I respect your desire to improve, and that you stick to your beliefs. And I do not consider you a trouble maker. But I am worried that you are making enemies here. You may have to make a compromise here and there. The Star Wars community is volatile enough. I don't know if users can get locked out, but I'm woories that you might be the first. User:SFH
--Master Starkeiller 23:33, 21 Aug 2005 (UTC)Enemies? Come on, guys! I never thought of it that way! Enemies are a thing to be dispised of! A disgusting think that I never thought of when coming here! Can people hate me because, as you said, I am trying to preserve Palpatine's mystique? Will I get locked for a questionmark, a goddamn questionmark, next to the birthdate of a fictional character that deserves a questionmark next to every stat that exists for him? I would be truly dissapointed with Wiki, then... I thought it worked in a democratic way. Am I deluded, and in truth it is run like some kind of dictatorship? I am hopeful that this is not the case, I will not be kicked out, and through democratic means, discussion, we will reach a consensus that satisfies everyone so that we all can add something to this encyclopedia. No, I am hopeful such a thing as "enemies" doesn't exist here, and I'll keep fighting for that questionmark and Palpatine's mystique. When I talked about slaughtering each other, that was a way I considered humorous that described the sitiation. I remain hopeful everybody interpreted it this way...
- Okay, maybe enemies was a bad choice of word on my part. But you are angering some people. You are going against the opinion of a lot of people. Some people are getting frustrated. And if Star Wars has taught me anything, its the dangers of not controlling your emotions. User:SFH
--Master Starkeiller 00:01, 22 Aug 2005 (UTC)I am controlling my emotions. It's just the way I support my opinions, it's too... well, I DO support them. And that fact that I'm alone against quite a few people, which means nothing 'cause it's not about opinions, it's about what can be consididered canon. But I ask for civilized discussion. I'm sorry if I angered some people by strongly supporting my opinion. I invite all of them to discuss it with me. I'm sure everyone can be satisfied in the end and nobody will ever be kicked out.
- Actually, I respect that you stick by your opinions. And I am trying to help. But it wasn't you I was talking about when I said not controlling your emotions. I'm talking about the other users. User:SFH
--Master Starkeiller 00:30, 22 Aug 2005 (UTC)Then I second that advice, but I assure you I had to fight my emotions too. It was I who started the edit war and this thing made me angry too. Now I calmed down, I apologize, I invite all these people that are angry with me to a discussion, and I state that I'll continue to fight for what is not so much my opinion but a possibility in canon that belongs to an encyclopedia a lot of people access freely for accurate information about the Star Wars universe.
- I have an idea on the "Darth Sidious, Dark Lord" line. How about we make it "Darth Sidious, once the greatest Dark Lord of the Sith, was finally dead"? It acknowledges him as a Sith Lord, yet doesn't specify if he still was during Dark Empire. It's perfectly neutral. User:SFH
--Master Starkeiller 22:20, 22 Aug 2005 (UTC)Genius. When it's unlocked, we should do that. But I think we should make it, "Palpatine, once supreme ruler of the galaxy, Darth Sidious, once the greatest Dark Lord of the Sith, was finally dead". It' more neutral and sounds grander. The line is for effect, after all. Everybody would be happy that way.
- Wonderful. I know where to place it. "Cut off from a host body, Emperor Palpatine, the supreme ruler of the Galactic Empire, was destroyed. Darth Sidious, once the greatest Dark Lord of the Sith, was finally dead." How does that sound? User:SFH
--Master Starkeiller 22:18, 23 Aug 2005 (UTC)I propose, "The Emperor, cut off from a host body, was destroyed. Palpatine, once supreme ruler of the galaxy, Darth Sidious, once the greatest Dark Lord of the Sith, was finally dead.". It's like recounting Palpatine's greatest achievements. It sounds grand. But, "Cut off from a host body, Emperor Palpatine, the supreme ruler of the Galactic Empire, was destroyed. Darth Sidious, once the greatest Dark Lord of the Sith, was finally dead." sounds fine too. I'd prefer, "The Emperor, cut off from a host body, was destroyed. Palpatine, once supreme ruler of the galaxy, Darth Sidious, once the greatest Dark Lord of the Sith, was finally dead.", but as long as it is neutral enough, it's good.
- I'd prefer my version because it lists his public title, Emperor Palpatine, followed by his private title, Darth Sidious. But we still need to figure out someway to reason out when he was born. You make a good point that anything Palpatine says is automatically suspect, but George Lucas has said that Palpatine during the prequels is no older than Ian McDiarmand. User:SFH
--Master Starkeiller 23:31, 23 Aug 2005 (UTC)When and where did he say that? Plus, G.L. has said maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaany things and changes his mind waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too often...
- I read it on the Palpatine talk page on Wikipedia. As to Lucas changing his mind...yah, okay, you may have a point there. User:SFH
--Master Starkeiller 23:41, 23 Aug 2005 (UTC)Hmmmm... I'll have to find another source for that... But hey, if he said it, he said "Palpatine". Which is my point for the entire age thing anyway... Persona and true face...
- Are you saying Palpatine may be some sort of Force-parasite, jumping from body to body? Or that he simply DID learn Plagueis secret, and used it to stay alive and assume a new identity? User:SFH
--Master Starkeiller 23:50, 23 Aug 2005 (UTC)I'm saying... ?. We shouldn't actually know. But the Palpatine the galaxy knew was just a persona and that's been estabilished. And the way all the wrinkles appeared in Ep. III when the lightning deformed him... Wrinkles, especially the ones on the neck, aren't a sign of injury. Just look at him in Ep. III. He looks like he's a hundred years old after the fight with Windu.
- Good point. Also, it has never been explained how the scars came in on his clone bodies. User:SFH
--Master Starkeiller 23:59, 23 Aug 2005 (UTC)Exactly. Merely the clone bodies AGING FASTER and being deformed by the Dark Side rules out the injury theory... Dark Empire and Sithisis rule this theory out. And the fingers, look at his fingers in Ep. III... When he is first deformed, his hands look like they used to in his guise as Palpy the Chancy. Then his hands get deformed too, along with his entire body we must presume. His nails become yellow-green and grow, while the hands become pale and wrinkled, and they seem somewhat swollen. He just looks OLD. Like he revealed his true face and age for Anakin to think he's injured, and then let his real body appear too. Whatever Dark Side-oriented injury took place must have had something to do with the things on his forehead and not with the wrinkles.
- I'm changing my vote on the question mark. You've convinced me that it should be placed up there. There is just so much we do not know about Palpatine that it should be suspect. User:SFH
--Master Starkeiller 21:54, 24 Aug 2005 (UTC)I'm just so happy to hear that... As a matter of fact, we know NOTHING about Palpatine, and we shouldn't. I'd love to see some stories about him in the future, but always in the pattern of Sithisis and the scene in Labyrinth of Evil where he kills a guy who learns his true identity. Thank you for supporting me.
- Come on down to the 84 vote, okay? You said you wanted to decide this in a democratic manner. I realize our opinions are just that. But we are voting on a matter of canon, based on the information that we have available. SFH 00:30, 28 Aug 2005 (UTC)
- I meant discussion! Didn't we find a fine compromise with the "finally dead" issue? Why can't we do the same with the questionmark? If all these people came and we discussed it, I know we could! --Master Starkeiller 00:33, 28 Aug 2005 (UTC)
- Something else related to this: Could you please stop editing your response on Talk pages? All you do is change one word or add one or two. Please stop doing this, as it fills my Watchlist up with "Talk: Palpatine... Starkeiller" way too many times. Cmdr. J. Nebulax 15:59, 20 Sep 2005 (EDT)

Image Replacement (something else)
I'm just giving you a head up because I'm seeing a pattern of this but it is kind of rude and a bit frustrating for people to have their images uploaded with something else like what you did to QuentinGeorge over at the Plo Koon page. If it is appropriate that's fine but the image was called PloKoonheadshot for a reason. What you replaced it with was not a head shot. I know that no one has an actual claim over content here but it's insulting to do that to someone in this case. I did it to his picture because I simply cleaned it up a little bit but what you did was uncalled for. It wouldn't kill you to upload whatever image you think is better with an appropriate file name. A full body shot does not constitute a head shot. Please be more considerate of the images that users upload.--DannyBoy7783 15:39, 5 Jan 2006 (UTC)
- Okay, I'll give it a try. When the image is total trash though (like Elan's pic that I replaced), such tact is unneeded. --Master Starkeiller 15:41, 5 Jan 2006 (UTC)
- Maybe it is the fact that you aren't a native english speaker or something but what is up with your constant use of extreme adjectives? "Total trash"? That is a bit harsh Starkeiller. Also, once I cleaned it up in photoshop it looked a bit better. If you are going to replace it you should include an image the same but of higher quality or an image that is very close to it. You simply replaced the image I think to save on work which is lazy. If your picture doesn't fit the image name or isn't like the image at all then don't replace it. It's fine to disagree with an image but don't replace the actual image with another one unless you have good reason. In this situation you should have uploaded a different one and edited the text. This is similiar to what you did with my lightsaber picture. This isn't a grudge or anything Starkeiller. I'm simply letting you know it is frustrating for other users and you should be aware of that.--DannyBoy7783 15:58, 5 Jan 2006 (UTC)
- And I replied that I'll try unless the picture's total trash. Had you even seen that picture I'm talking about? It's the Sleazebaggano pic. The character was barely visible. And what's wrong with being lazy anyway? It's not like I'm hurting the site or anything, I have the right to be lazy. The name of the picture isn't important after all, the pic description in the page it is used is, and I always change that. I'll take into consideration the uploader's feelings about the pic next time, if it isn't total trash, I assure you. --Master Starkeiller 16:07, 5 Jan 2006 (UTC)
- I do not know the image you are talking about. I'm only talking about the Plo Koon image. The reason it is better to upload the file with a different name is in case a disagreement comes up. It's better to leave oth images intact.--DannyBoy7783 16:21, 5 Jan 2006 (UTC)
- I was talking about this picture:

You can't imagine how bad it was before I replaced it. Trust me, total trash. The Plo Koon picture wasn't bad, I just felt we needed a full-body. Now it's reverted. No harm done. --Master Starkeiller 16:24, 5 Jan 2006 (UTC)
- It wasn't that bad...it had some low-res pixelation going on but it's not that bad. Please don't be so melodramatic. It's really not necessary. People take time to find pictures and try and improve this place. Insulting that isn't helpful. I called your writing crap so you can rip on my pictures if it will make you feel better but have Darth Fisto or QuentinGeorge? If not I would try and be a bit more diplomatic about issues you have with their work.--DannyBoy7783 16:31, 5 Jan 2006 (UTC)

Blanking
Please do not blank your talk page, no matter how infuriating it is. You may, however, archive it as you like (perhaps under a subpage named "DO NOT CLICK"). --Imp 20:12, 6 Jan 2006 (UTC)
- If DannyBoy insulted you in the way he did me, you'd understand why I did it. Can you teach me how to archive, I've never done it before. --Master Starkeiller 20:14, 6 Jan 2006 (UTC)
- Just create a subpage of this page (for example [[User talk:Starkeiller/Archive1]]), and link it from here. I do understand you, but we want to keep any and all discussion, no matter if it's only bickering. Who knows, maybe you both can look at this archive in the future and laugh. --Imp 20:21, 6 Jan 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the info, Imp. Though for now, instead of laughing, when I look at it I get the Sith eyes... --Master Starkeiller 20:24, 6 Jan 2006 (UTC)

Minor request
Could you please put your signature at the end of your comments rather than the beginning? There's nothing wrong with it, really, but it makes talk pages easier to read if everyone else is using the same convention. Thanks. — Silly Dan 00:42, 25 Aug 2005 (UTC)

--Master Starkeiller 00:33, 28 Aug 2005 (UTC)

minor request
Could you please put your signature at the end of your comments rather than the beginning? There's nothing wrong with it, really, but it makes talk pages easier to read if everyone else is using the same convention. Thanks. — Silly Dan 00:42, 25 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Your Dooku Image
I reverted your replacement of the already existing image because I feel that what we have already is good. Do you have a thing against speech balloons? -- Riffsyphon1024 18:39, 7 Sep 2005 (UTC)
- It's just the same without the baloons. They look bad in an encyclopedia. --Master Starkeiller 18:41, 7 Sep 2005 (UTC)
- But don't you feel the impact when he says, "What have we done?"? It's eerily similar to Anakin's "What have I done?" in ROTS. There's a sort of emotional effect there in that, and yet as I think about it, POVish. Damn. -- Riffsyphon1024 18:43, 7 Sep 2005 (UTC)
- I haven't thought of that. I'll leave that one, but I can keep editing out the baloons in others, right? It kind of looks like we have an image from a video game with the energy bar in it... Some of them look even really bad with half a baloon missing and such things. --Master Starkeiller 18:46, 7 Sep 2005 (UTC)
- In those cases, cropping is needed and you are allowed to fix those, but I thought I'd tell you why I wanted the Dooku one to remain. -- Riffsyphon1024 18:50, 7 Sep 2005 (UTC)
- Yep, it deserves an exception! --Master Starkeiller 18:51, 7 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Pictures
- Can you hold off on the cropping of all those pictures? Some of those scenes were specifically chosen for their context, and don't look as good when you crop it down to just the person's face. QuentinGeorge 21:25, 7 Sep 2005 (UTC)
- Pictures with word baloons look really bad in an encyclopedia. If there is any special context, I keep it. If there's an unnecessary baloon, I crop it. --Master Starkeiller 21:30, 7 Sep 2005 (UTC)
- Firstly, I don't think it's a "fact" that balloons look "really bad" in an encyclopedia. Secondly, why did you crop the Tholme one? It looks better with Quinlan in it, as it places it in the context of the scene (ie, Tholme and Quinlan falling out on Saleucami). Otherwise, it's just a picture of Tholme looking haggard and not particularly interesting. I see a similar point was made above with the Dooku picture. I think the same applies to this one. QuentinGeorge 05:57, 8 Sep 2005 (UTC)
- Okay, then. If this one falls under the "special context" category, it's back. --Master Starkeiller 09:21, 8 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Dark Side vs. dark side
I'm sorry, but "dark side" has been established as a consensus due to it being the most popular form in official sources. Star Wars talk:Community Portal/Namespace dispute. Sikon [Talk] 16:00, 29 Sep 2005 (UTC)
- Well, a while back, I changed it back to "dark side" based on this, but I was corrected. In the Wiki, it is as "Dark Side" everywhere. We'll have to edit the whole encyclopedia... --Master Starkeiller 16:33, 29 Sep 2005 (UTC)
Force bond
And if I replace the female Exile with a male Exile, will it be any better? :) We don't know the Exile's canonical gender anyway. Considering "visible Force", most people will realize it's an UI element. And if they don't, we can explain it. - Sikon [Talk] 08:34, 1 Oct 2005 (UTC)
- Isn't the bald male Exile with the goatee the canonical one? --Master Starkeiller 09:51, 1 Oct 2005 (UTC)
- No, it's just Obsidian's promotional art. According to Leland Chee, the Exile's canonical gender hasn't yet been determined, but he's trying to make it female (although we shouldn't assume he will succeed). - Sikon [Talk] 11:12, 1 Oct 2005 (UTC)

- Why are you removing links from image pages? It seems extremely counterproductive. MarcK 14:03, 16 Oct 2005 (UTC)
- I'm removing them from the descriptions of the images but I keep them in the description of the image within the page that links to it. We don't need links if the image itself links to a page. I'm only keeping "behind the scenes" link for the discriptions. --Master Starkeiller 14:06, 16 Oct 2005 (UTC)

- I meant in general. I'm trying to upload the picture of Palpatine debarking his shuttle in Episode VI, but it just doesn't say how to upload it. I'm in over my head and I need help. -- SFH 20:00, 16 Oct 2005 (UTC)
- Go to the upload "file" option at the toolbox, or through "Special Pages". Then choose the pic, add a description, a {{fairuse}} or a {{film-screenshot}} or {{bookcover}} and upload it. --Master Starkeiller 20:04, 16 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Links on pics
Putting links in a picture description screws up the ALT text, at least in this version of the MediaWiki software. So, for example, "Kit Fisto leads a group of clone troopers in the Battle of Geonosis" becomes "Kit Fisto leads a group of in the ". That's why I generally remove links in picture descriptions. —Darth Culator (talk) 16:38, 10 Nov 2005 (UTC)
- Hmmmm... I'm not sure I understand... What's the ALT text? --Master Starkeiller 17:10, 10 Nov 2005 (UTC)
- It's the text that pops up when you hover your mouse over a picture. Firefox doesn't display it by default without an extension, but MSIE does. It's part of accessibility certification for blind users. —Darth Culator (talk) 17:29, 10 Nov 2005 (UTC)
- But if the links are removed from images, Wookiepedia articles will be more diffult to access. The links exist so the reader can access an article about what he or she is seeing, which is very useful. --Master Starkeiller 17:34, 10 Nov 2005 (UTC)
- I'm going to leave the links from now on anyway, since I've just realized the current MediaWiki version in use on Wikipedia has fixed the problem. —Darth Culator (talk) 17:49, 10 Nov 2005 (UTC)

Why do you keep removing alien pics from the alien pages?JustinGann 06:24, 14 Nov 2005 (UTC)

About Palpatine contacting clone commanders one by one
Dear 'Keiller,
On the subject of Sidious contacting each clone commander one by one: you kindly put to me, "Sorry, Erik, but as nicely as you put it, it can't have been that way. There are thousands of clone commanders, he couldn't have contacted all of them personally." True, it sounds implausible, but in this I am bound by what was written in the young adult novelization of Revenge of the Sith (p. 122-123), which says specifically:
Reaching out, he keyed a frequency into his hologram projector, and waited... A small hologram of the first of the clone commanders sprang up before him [Palpatine then issues Order 66 to this first commander, and the transmission ends] Darth Sidious keyed in the next frequency, and another, identical hologram appeared. Again and again, he repeated the same words to clone commander after clone commander, on world after world. With every message, his faint smile grew.
So despite the seeming illogic of it all, it seems that instead of just sending the signal once over all commander's channels, he personally ordered every commander separately. Why? Dunno. Maybe just so it would last longer. After all, if you've been waiting to do something all your life, youldn't you savor it?
So I have no choice but to put it back as it was. But in respect to NPOV, I'll leave those bits out. A shame though: Sidious really would have referred to those poor dead Padawans and younglings as "the Temple's brats."
Best wishes! Erik Pflueger 18:01, 18 Dec 2005 (UTC)
- I didn't know that, sorry for removing it. I'm sure he only contacted the commanders under the most "dangerous" Jedi, like Yoda, Kenobi, Mundi etc. He CAN'T have contacted five thousand clone commanders or something! And yeah, he probably was thinking, "Heh heh, I've waited all those years to do this, I'd better have some fun while at it". And I'll put back the "Temple's brats". --Master Starkeiller 18:08, 18 Dec 2005 (UTC)
- Assuming it took him about seven seconds for each order (about five to give the order, and two to switch to the next channel), it would take him almost ten hours to reach every one of 5,000 commanders. That's a long night, but one that the timeline of Episode III does seem to have room for, assuming Palpy didn't sleep the night he made the order. jSarek 22:00, 18 Dec 2005 (UTC)
- It's plausible, since Palpy doesn't sleep. --Master Starkeiller 12:58, 19 Dec 2005 (UTC)

Music italicization
- Song titles aren't supposed to be italicized, and neither are band names. That's how it is on Wikipedia and that's how it should be here. --MarcK [talk] 11:20, 30 Dec 2005 (UTC)
- Song titles maybe, but band titles should be. --Master Starkeiller 11:22, 30 Dec 2005 (UTC)
- Why? I've never seen band names italicized anywhere, including Wikipedia. --MarcK [talk] 11:25, 30 Dec 2005 (UTC)
- 'Cause I saw, "The Emperor's New Clothes" and I thought "What the #$@$ is that?" before I clicked on it. I'd think the same if I saw a ship name that wasn't italicized. --Master Starkeiller 11:27, 30 Dec 2005 (UTC)
- Well you found out what it was once you clicked through to its article didn't you? And the reason ships are italicized is because that's how it's done in the real world, such as, for example, USS Missouri. Bands have never been italicized in any publication I've ever seen, and I don't see any worthwhile reason that we should do it. --MarcK [talk] 11:33, 30 Dec 2005 (UTC)
- Okay, whatever. I just don't like it. --Master Starkeiller 11:36, 30 Dec 2005 (UTC)
- There. It doesn't feel right, but I put back everything as it was. --Master Starkeiller 11:44, 30 Dec 2005 (UTC)
- Just to throw another wrench in the works, the source for these bands, Galaxy Guide 9: Fragments from the Rim, *does* in fact italicize their names. jSarek 12:01, 30 Dec 2005 (UTC)
- Okay, I'm done with bands. No more bands or songs or... anything! *Runs away* --Master Starkeiller 12:02, 30 Dec 2005 (UTC)
