The past perfect (also called "pluperfect") is formed by combining the auxiliary verb "had" with the past participle of the main verb. In the exemple you attempted to change, the main verb was "have," whose past participle is "had." Hence "had had." --LelalMekha (talk) 20:44, April 20, 2016 (UTC)
