Conflict on Carlac

In 20 BBY,[1] Death Watch was contacted by Lux Bonteri, who had learned that his mother, Senator Mina Bonteri, had been betrayed and killed by Count Dooku, leader of the Confederacy of Independent Systems. The Death Watch had also been betrayed by Dooku, and Bonteri, who had gathered information on the count's whereabouts, wished to unite, seeking revenge. Vizsla agreed, and Bonteri traveled to Carlac. When Bonteri arrived, Kryze led a small squad of Death Watch soldiers to meet with him. Upon their arrival, Kryze noted that Bonteri had arrived later than they had agreed upon and questioned if Bonteri had brought the information that Vizsla sought. Bonteri confirmed this and noted that he had the information with him. Noticing a young Togruta girl—secretly Jedi Padawan Ahsoka Tano—that Bonteri had traveled with, Kryze questioned Bonteri on who she was to which Tano responded that she was Bonteri's betrothed. Bonteri feigned a confirmation of this, but Kryze was still suspicious and grabbed Tano's chin. Kryze proceeded to walk behind her and comment on her skininess before slapping her backside to prove her point, causing Tano to fall forward and enter into a fighting position. Bonteri moved to block Tano and said that she served her purpose to him. The R2 series astromech droid R2-D2 suddenly arrived from their ship, whistling to Tano as he rolled in and causing the Mandalorians to turn towards him in surprise. Ignoring the droid, Kryze ordered her squad to move out as a snowstorm was on its way. As several speeders arrived to ferry Tano, Bonteri, and R2-D2 to their camp, Kryze used her Z-6 jetpack to assist in escorting their new arrivals.[2] Upon their arrival back at the Death Watch camp, Kryze showed Bonteri and Tano to Vizsla's tent. Entering the tent alongside Vizsla and another Mandalorian, Kryze witnessed Tano and Bonteri kissing one another as Vizsla asked the two if he was interrupting anything between them. Bonteri quickly rejected this idea before Vizsla removed his helmet and informed Bonteri that it was time for them to discuss Bonteri's holo-trace device, which had been able to give Bonteri Dooku's exact location. Ordering for Tano to leave their tent, Kryze grabbed her and led her to a tent containing many Ming Po women that had been kidnapped from a village nearby. Pushing Tano to the ground, Kryze exited the tent, chuckling to herself as she left.[2]

Later, Kryze stood alongside Vizsla and Bonteri during a feast to celebrate the Death Watch learning of Count Dooku's location. As the Mandalorians around them ate the food cooked by the Ming Po women they had kidnapped, the chieftain of the Ming Po village, Pieter, entered their tent, announcing that they had had enough of the Death Watch's attacks against them and demanded that their women be released. Vizsla agreed and told Chieftain Pieter that he would meet them at their village at sunrise the next day to meet their demands.[2]

Arriving at the Ming Po village as promised, Kryze joined the rest of Death Watch inside the village, perching herself atop the roof of one of the village's buildings. Kryze watched from the rooftop as Vizsla betrayed the chieftain and began to burn their village before Tano attempted to defend the Ming Po, revealing herself as a Jedi. However, Tano's attempt quickly faltered and she was captured by the Death Watch as Kryze continued to watch, now using her jetpack. Dragging her back to camp, Tano was brought inside Vizsla's tent where Kryze stood alongside Death Watch's leader. Vizsla attempted to execute Tano, but was stopped when R2-D2 secretly entered the tent and produced a smokescreen, disorienting the Mandalorians. The droid then gave Tano her two lightsabers back and she freed herself, entering into a fighting stance. Kryze rushed to Vizsla's defense, but Vizsla instead ordered them aside, wanting to slay Tano himself. As the Mandalorians rushed outside the tent, they were confronted by the droids they had used for target practice within the camp, now having been repaired by R2-D2. Kryze took out her WESTAR-35 blaster pistols and began to fire at the droids, briefly ducking as an explosion rocked behind them before using her jetpack to fly away. Landing atop the monster battle droid, battle droid 513, she quickly used her blasters to destroy the droid before flying away once more.[2]

Landing beside Vizsla, Kryze and the other Mandalorians were ordered not to let Bonteri, Tano, and R2-D2 escape as the three were now escaping after having managed to capture a landspeeder during the carnage. This prompted Kryze to join two other Mandalorians as they chased after the three fleeing assailants. Arriving behind their speeder, one of the Mandalorians flanking Kryze managed to land a rocket from his vambrace that knocked Tano to the side of the speeder. Firing his blaster at Tano, she deflected the shots into his jetpack, forcing him to fly away to his fiery death. Continuing their attack, Kryze signaled for the other Mandalorian flanking her to attack Tano. Acknowledging her order, he attacked Tano but was similarly knocked from the speeder when Tano used the Force to push him off the speeder. Kryze now joined the action herself, landing atop their speeder and firing two blaster bolts from her vambrace before engaging Tano in hand-to-hand combat. Kryze proceeded to elbow Tano and knock her off the speeder; however, Tano managed to catch herself, grabbing onto the side of one of the speeder's engines. Chuckling to herself as she prepared to attack Tano once again, Bonteri shook the speeder, throwing off her vambrace's aim. She then briefly turned her attention to Bonteri before Tano managed to leap up from the speeder's side and knock Kryze off-balance. Unsheathing a knife from within her vambrace, Kryze lunged at Tano, but missed as Tano launched a counterattack against her. Before Kryze was able to recover, Tano used the Force to push her off the speeder. Having collapsed underneath the speeder, Kryze used her knife to slash the speeder's underside as the three escaped.[2]
