Yoda's secret war

Answering a call

"Not on their own are your children. But wrestling with the chaos you left them in. Blame them I do not. Better teachers they deserved."
―Master Yoda, to the missing parents of Vagadarr Prime[1]

Around 40 BBY [2], Yoda saved a Force sensitive child named Lo from the Flesh Mongers on the planet Botor to begin his Jedi training. After dealing with the pirates, the Jedi Master was joined by Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi who were tasked with taking the child to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. On Botor, Yoda felt a disturbance in the Force and decided to follow its call which led him to Vagadarr Prime. After landing on the planet's surface, the Jedi Master got himself surrounded by child warriors attacking him. Yoda used the Force to defend himself, and told the children he came in peace, answering the call he felt. The group understood that the Jedi heard their Skyscream, and believed his Stonepower was strong. They then led Yoda to their home, Mucktown. There, he learnt that the Skyscreamers used shards of the Sacred rock to accomplish their prayer, the one that Yoda felt. The rock wasn't like anything he saw before, the Jedi knew it was strong with the Force. The Mud dwellers told Yoda about their war against the Rockhawkers, a rival tribe. He learned about the history of their homeworld, and how the war began. Long ago, people lived in harmony near the Blue mountains, but some wanted the power of the stones for themselves. It divided the people into factions, which started a war and led most of the mountains to be destroyed. Only one mountain remained, which was claimed by the Rockhawkers, who bannished the Mud dwellers to the Mud Fields. They carried as much stone as they could for their children, now the only survivors of the tribe. The children led Yoda to a Rockhawker they made prisonner. The Jedi felt how much he feared the Mountain. While the children argued on the fate of their prisonner, Yoda begged them not to be consummed by fear, and asked them to free the boy so he could lead the Jedi to his faction.[3] [4]

Exploring the Mountain

After walking to the Mountain, Yoda meets the Rockhawkers who attacked him with the stones despite bringing them the freed child. The Jedi Master refused to fight back, and was captured. Then, the tribe sent him to find the Heart of the Mountain, accompanied by the boy he saved. Yoda walked the steps leading to the Heart, but fear gained his companion who was convinced that only death awaited them, like all the people they've sent up there before. He fell to his death, despite Yoda's attempt to change his mind. Reaching the end of the path, the Jedi entered a cave where he met the lost parents, sent by their child to find the Heart of the Mountain. They told Yoda that they didn't want to leave this place, prefering the peace they found here to the war outside. Yoda replied that they abandonned their children to the war they've provoked. He then left to explore further the cave, and met a child named Garro, abandonned by the Rockhawkers who thought he was too weak. After saving his life, Yoda asks the child to teach him the ways of the Stonepower, and to become his master. While they trained, the Jedi Master discovered the Heart of the Mountain and understood that the stone was not only alive in the Force, but literally a living being. After nine days of communing with the Mountain, Yoda heard its voice. He understood that long ago, the mountains were Giants of living stone who lived peacefully before being forced to hide underground, turning them into mountains. Yoda and Garro exited the cave, but the Jedi refused to share what he learned to the Rockhawkers. The tribe threatened the Jedi, but Garro revealed the secret of the mountains to his kind. He then ended Yoda's teaching, and joined back his faction. [4] [1] [5]

Last battle

Yoda came back to the Mud dwellers, warning them of an inevitable war. Meanwhile, Garro taught to his tribe how to commune with the Mountain, but used the dark side to do so. Yoda encouraged the Mud dwellers to pray so as to help the stones to wake up. The Rockhawkers then made the Mountain rise from the ground, but the Jedi Master decided to go alone. With help from the Force, Yoda managed to resist the Mountain, eagered for revenge. Shortly after, other living stone woke up and helped Yoda fight the Mountain which perished. While Garro and his tribe ran to fight Master Yoda, he begged him to learn to live in peace with the stones and with himself, so as to end this war. Garro dropped his weapon, and abandonned the fight. The war has ended. The tribes lived once again in peace with the stone, and the parents found their children back. Many left the planet after hearing Yoda talking about the other worlds in the Galaxy. While leaving, Yoda kept the secret of the Mountain for himself, only sharing the lesson he learned to Obi-Wan Kenobi : "A Jedi must humble himself before he can ever be powerful." [5] [6]
