A live-action Star Wars film was planned to be released on December 18, 2026, but was later removed from Disney's release slate. The film was revealed on June 13, 2023 after the start of the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike when Disney re-organized their theatrical film release slate.[1] In the 2024 Q3 Earnings Presentation on August 7, Disney confirmed its commitment to releasing The Mandalorian and Grogu and a second film in 2026, along with another film in 2027.[2] On November 15, 2024, Disney released an updated release schedule for its theatrical films, pulling the untitled Star Wars film off its calendar and instead giving the release date slot to the forthcoming animated film Ice Age 6.[3]
