"The Emperor commissioned artists across the Galaxy to emphasize the power of the Empire. The Empire hired me to give the painting to all citizens."
Navari Trik speaking of United in Our Cause[1]

United in Our Cause was the title of an Imperial propaganda poster painted some time during 1 ABY. It was the winner of the Galactic Empire Painting Contest. Upon winning the contest, it was given out to spacers in Mos Eisley by Navari Trik.

Depiction

The painting depicted a Mon Calamari crafter, identified as Ceric, on the left side and a Twi'lek entertainer, identified as Tails, on the right side. A small battle taking place outside of an Imperial Forward Outpost could be seen depicted in the center of the painting. A group of three Stormtroopers, a Scout trooper and a Shocktrooper were also shown in a combative stance. The Aurebesh text in the center portion of the painting read, "United in Our Cause." Along the bottom of the painting, the text read, "Crafters, Fighters, Ents" (short for entertainers). The text was obviously alluding to the crafter, fighters and entertainer depicted above.[1]

Behind the scenes

United in Our Cause was a painting that players of Star Wars Galaxies could obtain for a limited time, from a Non-Player Character (NPC) in Mos Eisley.[3] The painting was voted on by the players, barely winning against another painting titled A Day Long Remembered. A third painting, simply titled Empire was also voted on, but it received the fewest votes.[4]

The painting was created by "Zel", a player of Star Wars Galaxies from the guild known as Mercs and Skilled Craftsmen, or MASC for short, of the Bloodfin server. Reportedly, the Mon Calamari crafter and the Twi'lek entertainer were the characters of two other players respectively known as "Ceric" and "Tails," also from the MASC guild. According to Zel, the two of them died, and he wished to memorialize them by including their player names in the painting.[5]

Notes and references

  1. 1.0 1.1 1.2 1.3 Star Wars Galaxies (post-NGE)
  2. The opening crawl of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided dates the game to after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, and additionally, Serji-X Arrogantus, who died in Star Wars (1977) 10—the events of which The New Essential Chronology dates to 0 ABY—appears in the game. Therefore, at least a portion of Star Wars Galaxies must be set in that year. Furthermore, in the game Ruwan Tokai references the destruction of the Death Star as having occurred one year earlier, and Strongholds of Resistance also places the events of Galaxies' Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" in 1 ABY. Lastly, while Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" features the Battle of Hoth—dated to 3 ABY by The New Essential Chronology—the developers have stated that the portrayal of that battle in the game is intentionally anachronistic. Therefore, the events of Star Wars Galaxies must span from 0 ABY to around 1 ABY.
