- "One day, a group of older kids ganged up on a smaller boy. It wasn't uncommon. Probably didn't have a reason. Maybe just a way to feel a little power, pass along the hurt to someone else. Han stepped in. Tried to fight off the other kids all by himself. Very brave. Very stupid. They beat the hell out of him."
- ―Qi'ra recalling the incident with the scrumrat to Leia Organa
A human male was a scrumrat among the White Worms criminal organization on the Core Worlds planet Corellia. At one point, the boy was ganged up on by older kids in the group. Fellow scrumrats Han and Qi'ra witnessed the event and Han stepped in to save the scrumrat, almost being killed, until goons of the White Worms leader Lady Proxima intervened.
In 3 ABY, Qi'ra, at that point the leader of the criminal syndicate Crimson Dawn, told Princess Leia Organa about the incident when the two met aboard the freighter known as the Millennium Falcon owned by Han, by then known as Han Solo, to talk about him. A year later, after Organa and Solo married and were on their honeymoon, she told him about the meeting with Qi'ra and that she had been told about the incident with the scrumrat, which Solo briefly thought about.
Biography
Han's intervention
- "Why did you do that, Han? You could have gotten yourself killed. For nothing."
"You're right Qi'ra. That is the way it is. No one's ever gonna help anyone else unless it gets them something. […] But today, for a few minutes, for that kid…that's not how it was." - ―Qi'ra and Han talk about why Han stepped in to help the boy
Qi'ra hugged the scrumrat (bottom) while Han attempted to step in and stop the older kids
A human male was a scrumrat within the White Worms criminal organization on[1] the Core Worlds planet[2] Corellia.[1] At one point between 24 BBY and 13 BBY,[3] the scrumrat was ganged up on by older kids in the gang. Fellow scrumrats and lovers Qi'ra and Han helped the boy, with Han stepping in and attempting to fight the older kids while Qi'ra hugged the boy. Han, however, was almost killed in the process until he himself was saved by the intervention of goons of Lady Proxima, the White Worms' leader.[1]
After the incident, Qi'ra, not understanding why Han had defended the kid when they had nothing to offer him, asked him why he had, especially when he could have ended up dead. Han responded that was the way things were, adding that no one would help unless it got them something in return. He then noted that was how it was for them on Corellia, before countering by stating that for a few minutes, it would have not been that way for the kid. Han finished by saying it was possible that it did not have to always be that way.[1]
Recollections
- "She told me a story about you. […] She said you got in a fight to help out a boy you didn’t even know. That the goons were going to kill you until your crime boss stepped in. Qi'ra made it sound like you were a fool to help."
"I was."
"You made a difference to that kid you saved." - ―Leia Organa and Han Solo talking about Qi'ra's retelling of the incident with the scrumrat to Organa
Qi'ra (bottom) told Leia Organa (top) about the time Han saved the scrumrat when the two met on the Millennium Falcon.
In 3 ABY,[4] Qi'ra, by then the leader of the criminal syndicate Crimson Dawn, met up with Princess Leia Organa to talk about Han—now known as Han Solo—aboard Solo's[1] freighter,[2] the Millennium Falcon. During their conversation, Qi'ra remarked that had she and Solo remained together, he would have walked a much darker path than be the person she knew he could be, which was possible now due to him being with the princess.[1]
When Organa questioned what she was talking about, Qi'ra told her the story of the time Solo had saved the scrumrat. Qi'ra speculated that the older kids had attacked the boy because they wanted to pass along some of their hurt to another. Once she was finished, the princess asked Qi'ra why she had told her the story, informing her that she knew Solo had good inside him. Before the crime lord left, Organa asked her if the story was true, though Qi'ra ignored the question and simply responded by telling her she would be seeing her.[1]
A year later,[5] during their honeymoon aboard the Star Cruiser Halcyon, Organa mentioned her meeting with Qi'ra to Solo, saying that she had told her a story about him. When he expressed worry, the princess responded that it was a good story, which Solo doubted. Organa then reminded Solo of the incident with the scrumrat, and when she told him that Qi'ra had made out that Solo had been a fool to help the kid, he agreed with the assessment. Following this, Solo briefly remembered the incident, and the discussion he had with Qi'ra after, noting that while Qi'ra may have cared for him, she had not acted when she saw the boy being beaten. Organa then told Solo that he had made a difference to the boy, which he considered and noted that it was nice to think at least.[2]
