A maintenance droid worked aboard the luxury cruiser Steady Wing during the High Republic Era. While the Steady Wing was on the planet Haileap, the maintenance droid encountered the Nihil marauder Klinith Da, who was disguised as a mechanic in order to orchestrate the destruction of the starship, in the escape pod bay. The droid refused to follow Da's orders to disable the escape pods' systems, and the marauder destroyed it with a hydrospanner.

During the High Republic Era, the maintenance droid served aboard the luxury liner Steady Wing.[2] In around 232 BBY,[1] Steady Wing was at the outpost of Port Haileap on the planet Haileap prior to carrying a Dalnan delegation to the Starlight Beacon space station, the droid was working in the escape pod bay. The Nihil marauder Klinith Da, disguised as a mechanic, entered the bay in order to disable the escape pods as part of a plot to destroy the Steady Wing, and the droid stopped upon her entrance.[2]

The droid asked if Da was there to sign off on the escape pods, and she ordered the droid to take out their communications and navigation systems, claiming the pods needed to be upgraded. Processing her command, the droid declared that it had no such instructions and that it had to update its feeds to receive new ones. Da picked up a nearby hydrospanner and repeatedly hit the droid, smashing it into pieces.[2]

A small box-shaped unit, the maintenance had several arms that stuck out at various angles and moved around by rolling. The droid could only follow instructions if they had been received on its feeds.[2]

Behind the scenes

The maintenance droid appeared, albeit unidentified, in the 2021 novel The High Republic: A Test of Courage, written by Justina Ireland.[2]
