«You didn't take the liner too close to that planet. You didn't ignore the engineers who warned the electronics were having trouble with the magnetic field twists. You didn't push the engines and scramble the thrusters in the first place. If I were the Boadil, I'd be looking to nail the liner's captain to the floor, not you.»
―Ziara, to Thrawn[1]

A Chiss of the Chiss Ascendancy's Ufsa family served as the captain of an excursion liner owned by the Boadil family,[1] before 19 BBY.[2] After the captain took the liner too close to a gas giant, ignoring the engineers' warnings of magnetic fields interfering with the electronics, the vessel became caught in the planet's gravity well. The liner and its eight thousand passengers were rescued by Senior Commander Mitth'raw'nuruodo, core name "Thrawn," with the assistance of Senior Captain Irizi'ar'alani "Ziara", at the cost of the liner's luxury external wings. As the Ufsa and Boadil families were close allies, the Boadil turned their anger for the destruction of the liner's wings on Thrawn, causing him to lose command of his ship, the Boco.[1]

Behind the scenes

The captain was mentioned in flashbacks of the 2020 novel Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising, the first installment of Timothy Zahn's Star Wars: The Ascendancy Trilogy.[1]
