"Well, as you can tell by looking at me, I'm a journalist. I write for all of the major News HoloStations throughout the galaxy, and am well known for my surprise exposes."
―The journalist, to a spacer[1]

A journalist worked on the planet Corellia at the time of the Galactic Civil War. This reporter wrote for various major news HoloStations throughout the galaxy and was well known for her surprise exposes.[1] In 1 ABY,[2] the journalist asked a spacer on the streets of Tyrena to visit the Imperial Stronghold on Corellia. They could not visit the base themself, as the Empire was aware of their activities and did not allow them to get near the stronghold. The journalist uploaded the stronghold's coordinates to the spacer's datapad, hoping that they could use the adventurer's observations in future news stories.[1]

The "excited journalist" was a non-player character in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[1] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[3]

The journalist was one of many herald NPCs that were added to the game shortly after its launch to point players to dungeons and other points of interest. When a player talked to them and agreed to help, a waypoint to the Imperial Stronghold was added to the player's datapad. If the player talked to her again, the same dialogue started from the beginning.[1]

Because the excited journalist spawned under the generic "commoner" template, their appearance was randomly generated among 120 possible appearances. This included Humans, Twi'leks, Zabrak, Bothans, Mon Calamari, Aqualish, Bith, Rodians, and Trandoshans of either gender, and male Devaronians, Ishi Tib, Nikto, and Sullustans.[1]

  2. The opening crawl of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided dates the game to after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, and additionally, Serji-X Arrogantus, who died in Star Wars (1977) 10—the events of which The New Essential Chronology dates to 0 ABY—appears in the game. Therefore, at least a portion of Star Wars Galaxies must be set in that year. Furthermore, in the game Ruwan Tokai references the destruction of the Death Star as having occurred one year earlier, and Strongholds of Resistance also places the events of Galaxies' Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" in 1 ABY. Lastly, while Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" features the Battle of Hoth—dated to 3 ABY by The New Essential Chronology—the developers have stated that the portrayal of that battle in the game is intentionally anachronistic. Therefore, the events of Star Wars Galaxies must span from 0 ABY to around 1 ABY.
