"The Nightsisters chose the strongest of their slaves and forced them to work the mines! I managed to escape and search for help, for we cannot save ourselves! Will you please help us gain our freedom?"
―The prisoner, to a spacer[2]

An prisoner escaped the Nightsisters on the planet Dathomir during the Galactic Civil War. He was among the strongest of their enslaved individuals and therefore selected to work in their mines at the Nightsister Forced Labor Camp.[2] In 1 ABY,[3] the individual escaped from the Nightsisters' mines and tried to find someone who would help free the other enslaved individuals. The local Imperial forces turned his request down, as the Empire had no interest in freeing enslaved individuals. He eventually made it to the Trade Outpost near the Singing Mountain, where he met an adventurer from the stars. The adventurer showed interest in the plight of the Nightsisters' enslaved individuals and promised to help them. The individual uploaded the mine's coordinates to the adventurer's datapad, hoping to see his friend again soon.[2]

The escaped prisoner was a non-player character (NPC) in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[2] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[4] The prisoner was added to the game with the "Publish 1" update, released on August 3, 2003.[5]

The prisoner could be found in the Trade Outpost on Dathomir. He was one of many herald NPCs that were added to the game to point players to dungeons and other points of interest. When a player talked to him and agreed to help, a waypoint to the Nightsister Forced Labor Camp was added to the player's datapad.[2]

Due to the nature of some characters in Galaxies, his gender and appearance were randomized during each server reset.[2] However, the description of the Nightsister Forced Labor Camp indicated that only males were enslaved by the Nightsisters.[1]

  3. The opening crawl of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided dates the game to after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, and additionally, Serji-X Arrogantus, who died in Star Wars (1977) 10—the events of which The New Essential Chronology dates to 0 ABY—appears in the game. Therefore, at least a portion of Star Wars Galaxies must be set in that year. Furthermore, in the game Ruwan Tokai references the destruction of the Death Star as having occurred one year earlier, and Strongholds of Resistance also places the events of Galaxies' Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" in 1 ABY. Lastly, while Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" features the Battle of Hoth—dated to 3 ABY by The New Essential Chronology—the developers have stated that the portrayal of that battle in the game is intentionally anachronistic. Therefore, the events of Star Wars Galaxies must span from 0 ABY to around 1 ABY.
