An unidentified droidsmith[2] and scholar[3] was the builder and master of the droid D-O.[4] By 21 ABY,[1] the scholar was present on Primus Cabru, where they were killed by the Sith assassin Ochi when he raided a library there. After witnessing the death of his master, D-O begged the assassin for his electronic life, and Ochi decided to keep D-O.[3]
Behind the scenes
The droidsmith was first mentioned, albeit indirectly, in the 2019 activity book Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Book and Magnetic Playset[5] written by Sally Little.[6] D-O's droidsmith was incorrectly identified as Babu Frik in the reference book Ultimate Star Wars, New Edition.[7]
The film Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker revealed that Frik and D-O were in fact unacquainted[8] and the reference book Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary by Pablo Hidalgo, established that the droidsmith was killed by Ochi prior to the events of the film, further cementing that they were a separate individual from Frik.[4]

- ↑ 1.0 1.1 The events of Shadow of the Sith takes places in 21 ABY per the reasoning per Star Wars: Timelines. As Shadow of the Sith establishes that the droidsmith was killed on Primus Cabru prior to the events of the book, they must have died by 21 ABY.
