A black slayer droid was an assassin droid alongside another droid that accompanied the Sith Kutu to pursue his former apprentice Lola at some point by 1032 BBY. After the trio encountered the former Sith, Kutu reminded her of a promise she had made to him, to which she replied that she was no longer a Sith. In response, the droids readied their blasters and approached her. Forgetting she had left her lightsaber at her home, Lola retreated on her wheel bike, with the droids chasing her through a rocky plain using jetpacks and firing upon her. Lola fired her own blasters at the pair and destroyed the black slayer droid's companion.

The black slayer droid persisted in the chase before a large starship fired a heavy laser cannon at the wheel bike, destroying it and leaving Lola on the ground defenseless. The droid approached Lola but her droid E2 came to her defense and shot off the head of the droid using a blaster cannon hidden behind his photoreceptor.

The black slayer droid alongside Kutu and the red droid

At some point by 1032 BBY,[1] the assassin droid accompanied the Sith Kutu with a fellow red-plated droid to[2] an asteroid[4] to retrieve his former apprentice—the human Lola, who had made a promise to the Sith. After arriving on the asteroid, Kutu destroyed a beacon set up by Lola. When the former apprentice traveled to and investigated the broken beacon, Kutu approached[2] her from a rocky outcrop.[3] After the two made eye contact, the black and red slayer droids stepped out of the outcrop and to Kutu's sides, elevated by rocks.[2]

Kutu reminded Lola of her promise, to which she stated that she was no longer a Sith. The droid readied[2] its[3] dual blaster pistols, stepped down from the rock, and approached Lola. The former Sith reached for her lightsaber on her hip, only to find she had left it at her home. As the droids advanced, Lola collected herself and yelled to her droid E2 to start the pair's wheel bike. The black slayer droid raised its blasters, opened fire on her, and gave chase. Lola jumped over the blaster bolts and deflected some with her cybernetic arm. The droids continued to fire at her with their blasters as she took control of her wheel bike while the droids activated their jetpacks and flew into the air after her.[2]

The droids chased Lola's wheel bike through a rocky plain, firing at the former Sith, who continued to dodge their attacks. As the chase went on, Lola turned her wheel bike around and opened fire on the red slayer droid with dual blaster pistols, hitting its jetpack and destroying it in a fiery explosion. The black droid persisted in the chase until a large starship fired[2] a heavy laser cannon[3] at the wheel bike, causing Lola to fall out and crash to the ground. The slayer droid then landed in front of her as E2 rolled in front of her to protect[2] his[3] companion. The slayer droid pointed its two blasters at E2 before the smaller droid's photoreceptor retracted and transformed into a blaster cannon. The assassin tilted its head before it was shot off, causing a shower of sparks to emit from the droid's neck before it collapsed.[2]

Characteristics

The slayer droid had a humanoid bipedal form with black-colored plating and a red[2] T-shaped photoreceptor.[3] The droid tilted its head when E3 pointed his transformed blaster cannon at it.[2]

Equipment

The droid carried two blaster pistols that fired red blaster bolts. It wore a jetpack that emitted blue flames on a tattered black cloak with red trim and lines that started at the shoulders then met at the chest.[2]

The slayer droid first appeared in "Sith," a non-canon short film released as part of the second volume of the anthology series Star Wars: Visions. Produced by El Guiri Studios, the animated short was released on Disney+[2] on May 4, 2023.[6] Prior to the droid's appearance in the short film, it appeared in the official trailer for Star Wars: Visions Volume 2 shown at the Star Wars: Visions panel during the fourth day of Celebration Europe on April 10, 2023.[7]

When the droid first approaches Lola, its blaster pistols disappear from its hands.[2] The Disney+ audio description describes the droids' jetpacks as boot-mounted, despite being attached to their backs.[3] The droid was featured in multiple pieces of concept art created by Pablo Dominguez for the short.[8] Carlos Salgado also created concept art including the droid.[9] The clothing simulations for the slayer droid were focused on by computer effects artist Gerard Pasqual Gill, who described his work on the short as an incredible experience.[5]
