"Do you have and copies of his work?"
"No, the Mining Guild won't release that information. But... he kept several journals of his work. They're still down in the Mos Algo mine." - ―An engineer in Bestine to Kay Vess

At some point they were task with looking for phrik on the desert planet Tatooine.[1] While surveying what became the Mos Algo mine he kept several journals of his work surveying. Ninety two days after the mine started half of the surveying group had been lost and they had only found a handful of phrik. At the same time the supply ships were increasingly sparse and their rations were low. By day 140 the rest of the crew had left after the final supply ship did not show up. being the only one remaining the grandfather decided to traverse the Dune Sea to start a new life at a down they had heard about.[1]
In 3 ABY[2] the Pyke Syndicate hired the scoundrel Kay Vess to get information on possible mining site as part of the syndicates plans to build a repulsor train on Tatooine and directed Vess to an engineer in Bestine. After paying the engineer fifty credits, they informed Vess about their grandfather, the surveyor and directed her to look for the grandfather's journal entries that were left in the Mos Algo mine.[1]
