- "My designation is of no significance. I come bearing a message."
- ―The droid, to Lyra Erso
In 17 BBY,[1] an RA-7 protocol droid was sent to deliver a message to Lyra Erso, the wife of scientist Galen Erso, warning her that her husband was unknowingly working on the Death Star superweapon for the Galactic Empire. The RA-7 protocol droid tracked Erso down on Alpinn to deliver the warning, though refused to divulge the identity of the individual who had sent it. After the protocol droid delivered the message, it self-destructed.[3]
Behind the scenes
The RA-7 protocol droid appeared in Darth Vader Annual 2, a comic written by Chuck Wendig, penciled by Leonard Kirk, and published by Marvel Comics[3] on July 18, 2018.[5] The events of the droid warning Lyra Erso contradict with her appearance in the 2016 novel Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel, written by James Luceno, in which Erso shows no indication of the warning or her subsequent urgency when leaving Alpinn.[6]
