A Pijal varactyl housed in the palace stables of the royal palace of the Inner Rim planet Pijal served the Pijali monarchy during the Republic Era. As part of a ceremonial Grand Hunt held[1] in 40 BBY[2] preceding the coronation of the world's Crown Princess Fanry, the varactyl was prepared by an attendant to ride in the event.[1]

After Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi was introduced to the beast, he made the effort to bond with it and rode the mount for the Grand Hunt. He later visited the varactyl before he departed the planet, reflecting that he would miss it. The varactyl had scarlet feathers, a tail, and posessed a tall stature compared to many humans.[1]
