- "The main reason for creating this piece was to show Vader leading his troops into battle. I wanted to actually show him in the midst of his beloved 501st Squad, being the leader he was born to be."
- ―Dave Dorman, on his painting
During the Imperial Era, the Galactic Empire fought a battle on an Outer Rim world.
The battle
- "The two most confusing elements of Lord Vader's Persuasion are the inclusion of the Imperial Guards (the red armored figures surrounding Vader) and the fact that Vader is rising above the squad."
- ―Dave Dorman, on his painting
At some point between 19 BBY and 0 BBY, the Imperial forces invaded a world located within the Outer Rim region of the galaxy. The operation was carried out by the 501st Legion and was personally led by Darth Vader.[1]
The invasion force included stormtroopers, scout troopers, Imperial Royal Guardsmen, as well as AT-ST and AT-AT walkers. Leading his troops directly from the front, Vader surrounded himself with a group of Imperial Guards, while stormtroopers of the 501st Legion formed a phalanx around them.[1]
During the course of the battle, the Sith Lord used the the Force to levitate himself above his troops. Knowing that he would become his opponents' primary target, he also used the Force to deflect enemy blaster bolts.[1]
Rising above the fray as a powerful leading figure, the Dark Lord of the Sith inspired his troops to push forward towards victory. As a result of the battle, Lord Vader effectively managed to persuade the Outer Rim world to join the Galactic Empire.[1]
Behind the scenes
- "This art has caught the imagination of Star Wars fans around the world, and has inspired me to create other scenes capturing potential story elements that were not in the screenplays, but are part of the canon of the Star Wars history."
- ―Dave Dorman, on his painting
The painting that featured this battle was created by Dave Dorman and exhibited at Celebration IV, the fourth Celebration of the Star Wars saga, which was held in Los Angeles, California from May 24 to May 28, 2007.[2]
It was later published in the 2012 art book Star Wars Art: Illustration under the title Lord Vader's Persuasion of the Outer Rim World.[2]
In 2013, the painting was used by Fantasy Flight Games to illustrate the card "Lord Vader's Command" in The Desolation of Hoth, the first Force Pack in The Hoth Cycle of Star Wars: The Card Game.[3]
In 2015, Dorman posted an article on his blog to explain his thoughts on creating his painting.[1]
