- "I am not losing the only chance I have to redeem myself and get off this frozen hell of a planet."
- ―The lieutenant to troopers
A human Imperial officer served as a lieutenant in the Galactic Empire's Inspectorate during the Imperial Era.[2] Between 3 ABY and 4 ABY,[4] the lieutenant was present in the Imperial Inspectorate Command Center on the planet Coruscant and reported to an Imperial commander that four Rebel Alliance ships were being tracked on a fast-attack vector towards the planet. The commander ordered the lieutenant to have orbital platforms activated and half of the planet's fighter wings scrambled to destroy the attackers, to which the lieutenant responded they would carry out the orders right away.[2]
After one of the ships were destroyed, the remaining three traveled to a statue of Emperor Palpatine in Monument Plaza, which was their intended target. As they approached, turbolasers defending the statue fired on the ships, hitting all three and destroying one. The lieutenant reported the development to the commander, which pleased them, though they were unaware that one of the rebel ships had actually damaged the statue. After the final rebel ships were either destroyed or left Coruscant, the commander and lieutenant made their way to the statue, where they discovered that it had been damaged. The commander ordered the lieutenant to remove the cam droids present, as they did not want the damage to also be advertised over the HoloNet, which the lieutenant agreed to do.[2]
Afterwards, the lieutenant noted one positive to the commander, stating that the rebels had lost several pilots during the attack, and that they would have had to send their best to carry it out. The commander responded by saying that that the Emperor would not care about a few rebels dying, and questioned how the damage had happened, to which the lieutenant answered that one of the rebel ships must have got lucky when they fired at the statue before they were attacked by the turbolasers. The commander picked up on the lieutenant's choice of using the word lucky, and stated that they suspected Emperor Palpatine may see things differently after he returned to Coruscant, before informing the lieutenant to get repair crews out to the statue immediately. As they began to leave, the commander told the lieutenant there was no hiding what had happened, that Palpatine would know what had happened and would take whatever corrective action he thought was appropriate. The commander told the lieutenant if either of them hoped to survive, they would be best to not rub the Emperor's face in it.[2]
