"Jedi, eh? Well Empire Day is the day the Emperor declared them outlaws, so it might be worth getting that information out there as soon as possible."
―An Imperial data officer speaking of an imprisoned Jedi[1]

A male Human individual served as an Imperial data officer during the Galactic Civil War.

Biography

After the Battle of Yavin, the data officer was an Imperial officer stationed in the Science Outpost on Dathomir.[1]

In 1 ABY,[2] during the Empire Day festivities, he met an Imperial spacer, sent to meet him from Rori by an Imperial garrison historian. The data officer had the Imperial meet up with an Imperial commander on Yavin 4 so that he could complete his mission concerning an imprisoned Jedi.[1]

Personality and traits

"Thankfully the Emperor was able to see them (the Jedi) for their true colors. His courage is why I became a Soldier for the Empire."
―An Imperial data officer speaking of the Emperor's courage[1]

The Imperial data officer was very loyal to the Empire and its Emperor. He, like Palpatine, believed that the Jedi were what sickened the Old Republic. The data officer admired Palpatine's courage in declaring the Jedi as outlaws. It was for this reason that he joined the Empire.[1]

Behind the scenes

An Imperial data officer, who lacked an official name, appeared as a non-player character in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[1] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[3] The Imperial data officer was added to the game upon the release of the "Publish 19," on June 29, 2005.[4] During the 2005 Empire Day live event from June 29 to July 11, 2005,[5] he could be found in the Science Outpost and was part of a quest titled "Happy Empire Day!," which sent players on an important mission throughout the galaxy.[1] After the live event ended, the Imperial data officer never reappeared in the game since the Empire Day event was discontinued until its complete overhaul in 2008.[6]

  2. The opening crawl of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided dates the game to after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, and additionally, Serji-X Arrogantus, who died in Star Wars (1977) 10—the events of which The New Essential Chronology dates to 0 ABY—appears in the game. Therefore, at least a portion of Star Wars Galaxies must be set in that year. Furthermore, in the game Ruwan Tokai references the destruction of the Death Star as having occurred one year earlier, and Strongholds of Resistance also places the events of Galaxies' Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" in 1 ABY. Lastly, while Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" features the Battle of Hoth—dated to 3 ABY by The New Essential Chronology—the developers have stated that the portrayal of that battle in the game is intentionally anachronistic. Therefore, the events of Star Wars Galaxies must span from 0 ABY to around 1 ABY.
