By 32 BBY,[2] a wealthy Hutt clan leader made a deal with the Toydarian junk dealer Watto, who operated a junkshop in the city of Mos Espa on the planet Tatooine. The Toydarian considered the transaction to be his first highly successful deal and afterwards added a unusual bell-shaped top to his shop.[1]
Behind the scenes
In the current Star Wars canon, the Hutt was first mentioned in the 2016 reference book Star Wars: Complete Locations.[3] The character originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where they were first mentioned in the the 2000 reference book Inside the Worlds of Star Wars: Episode I, authored by Kristin Lund.[4]

- ↑ Star Wars: Complete Locations, New Edition states that Watto made a deal with the Hutt prior to adding the bell-shaped top to his junkshop. The bell-shaped top is visible in Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 32 BBY, and so the deal must have taken place by that year.
