A species of rare bird lived on the Core Worlds planet Aldraig IV. At one point, it was hunted nearly to the point of extinction; however, later preservation efforts helped revive its population.
History
This rare form of bird inhabited the southern polar region of the Core Worlds planet Aldraig IV. Once hunted nearly to extinction, it later recovered thanks to concerted preservation efforts that allowed the species to repopulate the region.[1]
During the rise of the Galactic Empire, the Sienar Fleet Systems company constructed a TIE fighter hull assembly facility in the recovery area of the rare birds. The construction of the TIE facility threatened the continued survival of the species. Local artist Riemann believed that using her stature to draw attention to the plight of the birds would help persuade the Empire to aid in their preservation. She staged a peaceful protest that was heavily covered by the media and announced her intention to defy the Empire to protect the birds. The protest was immediately cut short when Imperial Governor Talloryn had Riemann and the protesters arrested, and the news reports were silenced. Briefly incarcerated, Riemann was warned that «agitation» was now a capital offense. Upon her release, she began to assist her fellow activists in secret. Selling her artwork to finance weapons and supplies, Riemann supported the growing underground movement.[1]
