Verpine fiber ultramesh, also known simply known as Ultramesh, was a type of durable armor made by the Verpine.[1]
Characteristics
Ultramesh was made by tightly weaving proprietary Verpine fiber into a dense and durable micromesh; despite its denseness, however, ultramesh was still lightweight and flexible, making it ideal for the construction of body armor.[1]
Ultramesh could be tailored in numerous ways, from full suits of medium armor such as those in the days of the Old Republic (whose durability, at the time, surpassed that of most heavy armor of the era)[3], to lightweight jumpsuits that appeared like normal cloth until an electrical charge was run through it, making it exceptionally rigid on activation.[2]
History
The techniques for making ultramesh were a carefully-guarded secret among the Verpine for millennia, as the manufacturing technique could be applied to other materials, making them substantially lighter and more durable; the Mando-Verpine Assault Fighter jointly developed by MandalMotors and the Verpine of Roche Industries being one notable example.[4] Despite this secrecy, the Verpine exported fiber mesh and ultramesh armor for centuries, making it a relatively common sight throughout the galaxy.[2]
