"Heavy losses sustained in the ongoing assault of U'Dray have put us understrength."
―Tomax Bren, in a datamemo to the Scimitar assault wing's squadron commanders[3]

U'Dray was a planet[4] situated in the U'Dray system of the Hook Nebula,[1] a part of the Trailing Sectors portion of[2] the Outer Rim Territories.[1] As part of the Galactic Civil War's Hook Nebula campaign waged at some point by the time shortly after the Battle of Yavin, the Qeimet fleet of the Galactic Empire carried out an assault at U'Dray.[3] The Rebel Alliance initially achieved a rare victory over[4] the fleet's Scimitar assault wing,[3] although the Empire nevertheless ultimately prevailed in the engagement.[2]

The assault wing's commanding officer, Captain Tomax Bren, mentioned the ongoing assault of U'Dray in a datamemo sent to the wing's squadron commanders. The message was subsequently included in a compilation of Imperial documents made by Rebel historian Major Arhul Hextrophon for Alliance Supreme Commander Mon Mothma and other Rebel officers.[3]

Behind the scenes

U'Dray's name was introduced in the Imperial Sourcebook.

U'Dray's name was introduced in the Imperial Sourcebook.

U'Dray's name was introduced via a mention of the assault of U'dray in Greg Gorden's 1989 Imperial Sourcebook that was published by West End Games for use with Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.[5] 2008's The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia subsequently provided the first description of U'Dray as a planet.[4] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas then placed U'Dray in grid square O-18.[2] "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, How I Wonder Where We Are," a 1990 roleplaying game source article that was published in the thirteenth issue of the Voyages SF magazine[6] and was non-canonical with respect to the Star Wars Legends continuity,[7] placed U'Dray—the name of which it misspelled as "V'Dray" on one occasion—in the Byss sector.[6]
