Tresk Ortola was a New Republic officer who had served with the Rebel Alliance.
While attending the Academy, he ran into a rebel sympathizer and upon graduating from the Academy, joined the merchant marine with several others. While with the group, he jumped at the first chance to join the Rebellion. For several years, Ortola served as the first officer on a Rebel gunship protecting transports and participating in a number of bold actions before being promoted to the rank of captain and granted command of the Corellian corvette NovaFlare prior to the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY.
Considered bold and not above tremendous chances if he got a gut feeling, Ortola was well known for pulling off difficult maneuvers. While his service record was exemplary however, he also had a reputation for developing selective hearing or creatively interpreting his orders when he felt there was a better solution to a given situation. This weakness brought him many successes but was also a reason he still commanded an aging corvette while other Alliance veterans went on bigger and modern ships during the early years of the New Republic.
In 11 ABY, Ortola was in command of one of the four Corellian corvettes assigned to General Wedge Antilles's task force. He participated in the assault on the Maw Installation and were instrumental in the destruction of the Imperial MCPS weapon which claimed one of his ship's sister craft. His own corvette was subsequently evacuated when Admiral Natasi Daala returned and attacked the Yavaris and the two remaining corvettes.
