Trank Varado[2] was a Valon boy active during the High Republic Era.[1] He[2] lived on[1] the Outer Rim planet[3] Valo.[1]

Behind the scenes

"…the other kid that we lost was this boy who was like a local friend? Because, when we were talking, we were like oh we should have another kid who isn't a Jedi, who they have a connection with, who they also have a history with."
―Alyssa Wong[1]

Trank Varado[2] was created for Escape from Valo,[1] a 2024 junior novel written by Daniel José Older and Alyssa Wong as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's Phase III.[4] In an interview, Wong specified that the boy had been drafted to be a local Valon friend of the Jedi younglings Gavi, Kildo, and Tep Tep. Though Varado was ultimately removed from the work's final iteration, Wong felt that the concept of the trio having a local child on Valo that they knew before the book's events was a character trait folded into Driggit Parse, a Valon girl present in the novel.[1]

Varado's name ultimately appeared in Escape from Valo in the form of an alias used by Gavi. Older later revealed that one of Varado's character traits was being adept at driving trucks.[2] According to Wong, the character was drafted out of the novel because they and Older felt there were "too many" children in the book to focus on adequately.[5]
