Tonkins was an operative of the Resistance. He, another operative, Finn, Poe Dameron, and BB-8 went to the Moon of Avedot. Unbeknownst to them was the Kendoh Gang's intention of hunting the rebel group down, wishing to turn them in to the First Order for a bounty. To this end, Tonkins was choked to death by the Gang's Wooro and impersonated by the Changeling Remex Io, who, along with Kendoh Voss and Wooro, subsequently attacked the other Resistance personnel.[2]
