Tom Sylla had his voice recorded by Lucasfilm sound designer Ben Burtt for a sound effect in Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope; his brother, John Sylla, also contributed voice recordings. While the Sylla brothers were growing up, they were neighbors of Burtt and best friends with Fox Vice President Ted Gagliano.[1]
Sylla spoke the line "All flight crews, man your stations. All flight crews, man your stations." at the very beginning of the Yavin Rebel Hangar scene in Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, just before Han Solo is seen loading his reward money onto his ship. Tom and John Sylla also provided background growls and grunts for the Cantina scene, just after the Bartender kicks R2 and 3PO out. He also spoke the ADR line "Gray Leader standing by," in Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi when rebel Horton Salm is shown speaking in his Y-wing cockpit just after the rebels arrive to attack the partially-completed Death Star.
Sylla also spoke several of the battle droid lines at the beginning of Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, including "Check it out, Corporal" and "Roger, Roger."
One of Sylla's family dogs, a dachshund named Max, provided some of the growls and roars of the Rancor beast in Jabba the Hutt's basement in Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi.[source?]
