Thearterra was an obscure[1] planet[2] located in the S-K system of the Unknown Regions' Chiss Space. A hyperlane linked the world to the Avidich system. The surface of Thearterra was constantly racked by volcanoes, hailstorms, and groundquakes. The world was part of the Chiss sentient species' government of the Chiss Ascendancy.[1]
Behind the scenes
- "There has been a lot of contradictory information published about the Chiss over the years, so I pray that this section is relatively error-free. There's also an Easter Egg in here, but I'm not saying what it is."
- ―Daniel Wallace
Thearterra was first mentioned in the 2002 novel The New Jedi Order: Dark Journey, written by Elaine Cunningham.[2] The planet was first identified as Thearterra in the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas, written by Jason Fry and Daniel Wallace. The book refers to it as "an obscure body in the S-K system,"[1] which are the exact words used by General Klytus to describe Earth to Ming the Merciless in the opening scenes of the 1980 film Flash Gordon Additionally, the description of the planet's climate matches that of planetary attacks that Ming inflicts upon the Earth in the movie.[4]
