"This is the time to watch for mind eels and their offspring. The solar flares excite them, and they do not heed the crop boundaries set forth in The Relevant Farm Act of Thairwsthis 12."
―Weather forecast for a planet's West Fissure region[1]

The Relevant Farm Act of Thairwsthis 12 was a law[1] that shared its name with the Mid Rim's Thairwsthis system[2] and established crop boundaries on an agricultural planet. However, the incandescent solar flares that periodically etched most of that world's surface excited both adult and young members of the mind eel species, and they ignored the stipulations of the law—a fact that was at one point noted in a weather forecast for the planet's West Fissure region that warned its inhabitants to exercise caution regarding the eels.[1]

Behind the scenes

The Relevant Farm Act of Thairwsthis 12 was mentioned in the 1993 book Monsters and Aliens from George Lucas, a publication that combines creature designs and photographs from various projects of George Lucas, creator of the Star Wars franchise, with original text by Bob Carrau.[1] Lucasfilm employee Leland Chee, who maintains the Holocron continuity database, has indicated that information contained in Monsters and Aliens from George Lucas is non-canonical with respect to the Star Wars Legends continuity.[3] However, the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas built upon the mention of The Relevant Farm Act of Thairwsthis 12 by introducing the Thairwsthis star system.[2]
