"The Longest Fall" is a short story which was written by Patricia A. Jackson. It was published in Star Wars Adventure Journal 11 by West End Games in November 1996. The story was reprinted in the Tales from the New Republic anthology book and was later made available in the Hyperspace section of StarWars.com. The tale tells of the execution of Jovan Vharing, captain of the Imperial Star Destroyer Interrogator, by his Dark Jedi overseer, High Inquisitor Tremayne.
Plot summary
Aboard the Star destroyer Interrogator, Senior Lieutenant Leeds intercepted a suspected Rebel transmission and ordered a strike that mistakenly resulted in the deaths of numerous Imperial officials. Now Captain Jovan Vharing reflects upon his career and missteps for he knows his punishment for his junior officer's mistake will most likely be his own summary execution at the hands of the Imperial High Inquisitor Tremayne.
