The Kazier was the original secret leader of the Crimson Dawn criminal syndicate whose role would be ultimately filled by the former Sith Lord Darth Maul.[1]
Behind the scenes
In a Tweet he posted on his Twitter account, screenwriter Jon Kasdan shared some details about The Kazier:[1]
- The Kazier was a genial but ruthless esque-Hume Cronyn character.[1]
- The Kazier had replaced his right hand with a teched-out rococo key.[1]
By the first draft of Solo: A Star Wars Story, The Kazier served as the true leader of Crimson Dawn behind the shadows. Through unknown reasons, however, the character was ultimately scrapped from the film's story and was replaced with Maul, who first appeared in the 1999 film Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace.[1]

Jon Kasdan (@JonKasdan) on Twitter (post): "Not exactly true. In the 1st draft, Dryden was second-in-command, a sort of Tom Hagen, to a character called The Kazier, a genial but ruthless Hume Cronyn-type who'd replaced his right hand w/ a teched-out rococo key. When that character went out, Dryden's superior became Maul." (backup link)
