The Executioner was a dark side Force-user who was an unwilling follower of Exar Kun.

History

Before becoming an unwilling follower of Exar Kun, the Executioner was a student at Corellia University, and may have been a member of an archaeological expedition on Yavin 4 in 1 ABY that unknowingly tunneled into the tombs below the Temple of Exar Kun and released the Sith Lord's spirit. The evil spirit proceeded to bind the students and researchers to his will, and induct them into the Cult of Exar Kun. Afterward, he sent them to Talus, to the Corellia University research outpost they had originally come from to enslave the rest of the people there. The majority of them were then sent back to Yavin 4. After losing contact with the outpost and fearing the worst, Professor Cornelius Wagglehorn hired a group of spacers to travel to Talus and investigate. The spacers learned what had transpired and informed the professor. He provided them with the coordinates to the tomb and implored them to destroy the evil Sith Lord's spirit within. The Executioner was among the dark Force-users' enslaved by the spirit of Exar Kun and confronted the spacers alongside the Caretaker of the Lost Souls. However, the spacers managed to defeat all former students, including The Executioner, and then proceed to confront the spirit of the Dark Lord himself.

The Executioner was a non-player character in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[2] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[3] The Executioner was added to the game as part of the "Exar Kun" Heroic Encounter,[2] introduced with the release of the "Chapter 9" update, on April 3, 2008.[4]

Because the Executioner appeared in the game as a generic Exar Kun cultist, the gender and appearance of this character were randomized during each server reset.[2]

Notes and references

  1. The opening crawl of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided dates the game to after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, and additionally, Serji-X Arrogantus, who died in Star Wars (1977) 10—the events of which The New Essential Chronology dates to 0 ABY—appears in the game. Therefore, at least a portion of Star Wars Galaxies must be set in that year. Furthermore, in the game Ruwan Tokai references the destruction of the Death Star as having occurred one year earlier, and Strongholds of Resistance also places the events of Galaxies' Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" in 1 ABY. Lastly, while Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" features the Battle of Hoth—dated to 3 ABY by The New Essential Chronology—the developers have stated that the portrayal of that battle in the game is intentionally anachronistic. Therefore, the events of Star Wars Galaxies must span from 0 ABY to around 1 ABY.
