The Drop was an ore-smelting process applied at the Sarnus Refinery, an industrial complex on the planet Sarnus in the Chiloon Rift nebula owned by the businessman Lando Calrissian. The Drop entailed astroliths—fragments of asteroids mined in the nebula and transported to Sarnus—being dropped from the planetary atmosphere into crash pits on the world's surface, from where they were transported via repulsi-veyer lines to grinding mills for processing. The Columi industrialist Marvid Qreph believed The Drop to be one of various outdated industrial techniques in use at the Sarnus Refinery. In 45 ABY, the biot Dena Yus sabotaged a drop on behalf of Marvid and his brother Craitheus by misaligning the refinery's protective tractor beams, resulting in the destruction of the Sarnus Refinery and the death of thirty thousand workers.[1]
