Spoiler in the spoiler warning itself
I changed the text of this template to something spoiler-free that I thought was pretty decent, and it was immediately reverted with no explanation. I'd like to put it back to my version so we don't put one of the biggest spoilers of all time in the spoiler warning itself. Mine said: "Obi-Wan never told you what happened to your father..." - 1) Due to the nature of templates, we usually ask you at least do the courtesy of a discussion thread or at least a point on the talk page discussing why you believe it needs to be changed, especially ones, such as this one, which have been come about due to a admin consensus.
- 2) Yes, this template warning has "the biggest spoiler of all time in it." That's the whole point - it alerts the reader to the gravity of the spoiler they are about to read by relating it to the most famous spoiler in Star Wars. There is absolutely nil chance that anyone would come to this site without knowing Darth Vader is Luke's father - and, if they did, that template would be the least of their worries, since that particular "spoiler" is spread throughout the entire site. The only spoilers that we specifically warn about here are from new or to-be-released products. All others (including, yes, ESB) are amply covered by the warning on the front page. Anyone perusing a comprehensive Star Wars encyclopedia should, at the very least, expect spoilers for the movies. QuentinGeorge 06:43, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
- Also, this version is 91% more awesome.
Black text on black background?
Is that intentional? Red XIV 01:09, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
- Shh. They don't want you to know that there's a spoiler in the article unless you're prepared to find out that there is a spoiler to something to which you dont' want to get spoiled. .... 01:12, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
Category
How come this template no longer puts articles in [[:Category:Articles with major spoilers]]? It seems kind of pointless to destroy that category for no reason. -LtNOWIS 06:48, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
Naming the specific work which is spoilerized
What do you think if we added to this template something that says what work that the article spoiled? It would be useful if someone could see if they had already read/saw the work being spoiled before reading an article. Jedibob5 02:40, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
MAJOR spoilers
Right now this template currently says that the pages it's on include "MAJOR" spoilers. I think this suggests to editors, who sometimes don't put the template on their newly-created pages, that the template should just be used for major plot details. With all of the new Star Wars works coming out, ranging from movies to TV to novels, comics, and games, I believe we should remove the word "MAJOR" from the template so this can apply to all pages that contain spoilers. I know that there's some resistance to putting the template on every page with new information, but given the sensitive nature of spoilers to many people online, I think we should err on the side of labeling all new information as a spoiler in our pages.
