Date Change
I believe that the timeline date for Thrawn Ascendancy: Greater Good should be c. 19 BBY instead of c. 18 BBY.
The current explanation is extremely flimsy in my opinion, and there is a lot of evidence backing up the fact that the book does not take place in 18 BBY, but 19 BBY. For one, the argument that something was described as “last year” makes no sense. For this to tell us what year it is, this would mean that the Chiss calendar would have to start on the exact day that is the anniversary of the Battle of Yavin.
We can deduce from this novel that Chapter 2 of Greater Good takes place 4.5 months after Chapter 6 of Chaos Rising. (When Thrawn first meets the Magys and when Thrawn first meets Uingali)
1. We can also deduce from Greater Good that Thrawn first met Uingali 2 months before he defeated Yiv the Benevolent.
2. Within those 2 months, Thrawn is away on his adventure with Anakin and Padme for 5 weeks.
3. This means that Greater Good starts a maximum of 3 months after the Thrawn: Alliances flashbacks, when Anakin and Padmé were seeing each other.
4. We know that Anakin and Padmé don’t see each other for months during the Outer Rim sieges before Revenge of the Sith. The 3 month maximum window there is here as well as other stories of Anakin and Padmé being together in 19 BBY makes it highly likely that Greater Good starts before Revenge of the Sith.
None of this is hard evidence, but there’s considerably more evidence pointing to 19 BBY than 18 BBY. Hence, why I think the date should be changed to c. 19 BBY.
My proposed change to the GreaterGoodDate note is to change it to:
The events of Thrawn: Alliances set during the Clone Wars take place after the trial and exoneration of Ahsoka Tano. Star Wars: Galactic Atlas dates both the end of the Clone Wars and the trial and exoneration of Ahsoka Tano to 19 BBY. As some of the events in Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising take place concurrently with Thrawn: Alliances and before Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, they must therefore take place during the year 19 BBY. In Thrawn Ascendancy: Greater Good, Thrawn mentions that it has been around 4.5 months since he first met Uingali foar Marocsaa, which was depicted in Chaos Rising. Since the events of Thrawn: Alliances set during the Clone Wars take place within those 4.5 months and take place months before Revenge of the Sith, which is also set in 19 BBY, it is therefore likely that the events of Greater Good take place in 19 BBY. - Do we know how long passes between chapter 2 of Greater Good where Thrawn mentions this, and chapter 11 where it states that Ar'alani delivered a decisive defeat on the Paataatus last year? Lewisr (talk) 22:52, 5 September 2021 (UTC)
- Less than 2 weeks, since Chapter 18 is said to have taken place 3 months after Thrawn defeated Yiv, while Chapter 2 is 2.5 months after Thrawn defeated Yiv. Mayor Raddus (talk) 17:16, 7 September 2021 (UTC)
