Usage instructions

Required parameters

  • |url= The URL of the web page, minus https://www.swtor.com/.
  • |text= The formatted text to display.
  • For archive options, see Backup links below. While the template support both archiveurl and archivedate parameters, it's designed to work with only the archivedate parameter, and should be used that way. However, archivedates should be put into Module:ArchiveAccess/TORweb, a centralized repository of archivedates for all swtor.com URLs; this allows TORweb to be used on an article without explicitly providing an archivedate, and the template will auto-provide one.

The "url", "text", and "int" fields need to be explicitly assigned to as, otherwise, use of the "=" symbol in the links messes up the template.

Optional parameters

  • |subdomain= The subdomain part of the URL if its not www as highlighted here: https://accounts.swtor.com. Default is www if left blank.
    • Using the "forums" subdomain will change the template to a forums citation version. Please clearly identify the forum post by using |author= and |date=.
  • |int= This field provides a link to the Wookieepedia article, if one exists.
  • |author= Name of the author. Mostly used with | to identify a post's author. Must be identical to the name used on the source and linked to an article if applicable.
  • |date= Full date of publication, in ISO 8601 YYYY-MM-DD format, for example "date=2006-02-17".
  • |quote= Relevant quote from the page. Double-quotes will be added automatically.
  • |oldversion= use |oldversion=1 when the current version of the entry no longer includes the target information.

For the commonly-referenced Patch Notes, {{TORweb/Patch}} can be used with just the patch number, and it will auto-generate the URL, text and archivedate.

Backup links

In accordance with our Sourcing policy, all links to external sites must include a link to a backup version, preferably using Internet Archive. Instances that do not include one of the following parameters will result in the page being placed in the maintenance category. Please only use one of the following parameters.

  • |archivedate=20251219135042
    This parameter uses the timestamp feature of Internet Archive. The URL supplied earlier in the template, along with archivedate, will provide a link to Internet Archive.
  • |archiveurl=https://archive.is/EfD8P
    If Internet Archive does not work for the link in question, you can use archiveurl to provide a full URL to another backup website, such as archive.today.
  • |archivefile=File:Jon_Favreau_The_Mandalorian.png
    If none of the archiving sites work, then upload a screenshot of the page, add {{Notorphan}} to the file page and include it in this category and on this page, and provide a link to the file (per Wookieepedia:Mofferences/June 29, 2014).
  • |nobackup=1
    If no backup link can be found for content that is no longer available, this parameter can be used. If the content is still available, you can screenshot and upload it to Wookieepedia instead.
  • |nolive=1
    If the original content is no longer available, this parameter can be used, which will make the template add "content now obsolete;" to the citation. This may also mean a backup link can no longer be provided, and therefore may be used as well as |nobackup=1. Some citation templates such as {{SWArchive}} link to older content that is known to be no longer available, and therefore automatically default to |nolive=1 without the need to add the parameter manually.
  • |oldversion=1
    If a reference needs to cite an older version of a page for content that has been removed from the version saved in ArchiveAccess, this parameter must be used. This suppresses the tracking categories for custom archive values, and protects the reference from replacement by C4-DE Bot.

Note that for citation templates using a central repository, archivedate and archiveurl values must be added to the repository, and not on the individual instance of those templates. If this template uses one, it is located at Module:ArchiveAccess/TORweb.
