Instructions

This template is to be used for citing all StarWars.com content published before the official site's revamp on September 13, 2011, or before the revamp of early 2014, and that wasn't kept available at least after this last revamp. Content from this period is identifiable either by the use of .html in filename (http://www.starwars.com/patch/filename.html) or by the complete removal of a selection of the website sections (and url paths) by early 2014 (ex: Shop). For pages on the Cargo Bay subdomain, use {{CargoBay}}.

For content kept online or published after the revamp of early 2014, use {{SW}}.

Usage

Copy the template code below and paste it into the appropriate place in an article, fill the required fields, and remove any that you don't use.

All fields need to be explicitly assigned to; otherwise, use of the "=" symbol in the URLs messes up the template.

Required parameters

  • |url= The URL of the page, minus http://www.starwars.com/.
  • |text= The formatted text to display.
  • For archive link, see Backup links below.

Optional parameters

  • |subdomain= The subdomain part of the URL. The parameter must be filled with the part between http:// and .starwars.com.
  • |int= This field provides a link to the Wookieepedia article, if one exists.
  • |author= Name(s) of the author(s). Multiple authors must be separated with a ";" between their names. Note that an author is not necessarily an individual and could be an organization. A long list of authors can be reduced using ", et al." after the first name. Provide wikilinks whenever they are available.
  • |date= Full date of publication, in ISO 8601 YYYY-MM-DD format, for example "date=2006-02-17".
  • |quote= Relevant quote from the page. Double-quotes will be added automatically.
  • |oldversion= Set to 1 when the information is not present on the common ArchiveAccess archivedate's version of the webpage, necessitating a custom archivedate.

Unneccesary parameters

  • |nolive= As the original online content is no longer available, the template will automatically add "content now obsolete;" to the citation, and therefore does NOT require the use of "|nolive=1" like with other citation templates.

Backup links

In accordance with our Sourcing policy, all links to external sites must include a link to a backup version, preferably using Internet Archive. Instances that do not include one of the following parameters will result in the page being placed in the maintenance category. Please only use one of the following parameters.

  • |archivedate=20251214140404
    This parameter uses the timestamp feature of Internet Archive. The URL supplied earlier in the template, along with archivedate, will provide a link to Internet Archive.
  • |archiveurl=https://archive.is/EfD8P
    If Internet Archive does not work for the link in question, you can use archiveurl to provide a full URL to another backup website, such as archive.today.
  • |archivefile=File:Jon_Favreau_The_Mandalorian.png
    If none of the archiving sites work, then upload a screenshot of the page, add {{Notorphan}} to the file page and include it in this category and on this page, and provide a link to the file (per Wookieepedia:Mofferences/June 29, 2014).
  • |nobackup=1
    If no backup link can be found for content that is no longer available, this parameter can be used. If the content is still available, you can screenshot and upload it to Wookieepedia instead.
  • |nolive=1
    If the original content is no longer available, this parameter can be used, which will make the template add "content now obsolete;" to the citation. This may also mean a backup link can no longer be provided, and therefore may be used as well as |nobackup=1. Some citation templates such as {{SWArchive}} link to older content that is known to be no longer available, and therefore automatically default to |nolive=1 without the need to add the parameter manually.
  • |oldversion=1
    If a reference needs to cite an older version of a page for content that has been removed from the version saved in ArchiveAccess, this parameter must be used. This suppresses the tracking categories for custom archive values, and protects the reference from replacement by C4-DE Bot.

Note that for citation templates using a central repository, archivedate and archiveurl values must be added to the repository, and not on the individual instance of those templates. If this template uses one, it is located at Module:ArchiveAccess/SWArchive.
