JCFCite

Purpose

The purpose of this template was to provide as much information as possible about each link to the Jedi Council Forums so that when the boards were moved to the new format in 2012, the then-broken links could be easily updated. Ideally, every link to a post on this list should use this template. This template should continue to be used even though the move is over, as it will enable easy reconstruction of the links should the boards ever move again.

This template should be used for all links, including both references and external links, to make reconstruction of the links as easy as possible if the format ever changes again.

Required parameters

• |temp= Should be added to the code and set to any non-null value ("yes" is recommended for ease of understanding the code) if you are linking to the temp boards that were up while the move was in progress. Setting this parameter with alter the URL path to match that used on the temp boards (unless using the |url= parameter), and will also change the subdomain from boards.theforce.net to gd.theforce.net to enable registered users to click the link to the temp boards without getting logged out on the new boards (this does work with the |url= parameter).
• |url= The short URL path to the post, thread or forum — posts/<num>, threads/<num>, or forums/<num>
• |board= Name of the individual board (e.g. "Literature") that the post is located in.
• |thread= Title of the thread the post is located in.
• |user= Username (not real name) of the author of the post.
• |date= Date of the post in Pacific Time (the JCF's official timezone).
• |time= Timestamp of the post in Pacific Time (the JCF's official timezone).

Optional parameters

• |quote= Optional quote parameter.

Instructions for providing a backup link In accordance with our Sourcing policy, all links to external sites must include a link to a backup version, preferably using Internet Archive. Instances that do not include one of the following parameters will result in the page being placed in the maintenance category. Please only use one of the following parameters. |archivedate=20251215171713 This parameter uses the timestamp feature of Internet Archive. The URL supplied earlier in the template, along with archivedate, will provide a link to Internet Archive. |archiveurl=https://archive.is/EfD8P If Internet Archive does not work for the link in question, you can use archiveurl to provide a full URL to another backup website, such as archive.today. |archivefile=File:Jon_Favreau_The_Mandalorian.png If none of the archiving sites work, then upload a screenshot of the page, add {{Notorphan}} to the file page and include it in this category and on this page, and provide a link to the file (per Wookieepedia:Mofferences/June 29, 2014). |nobackup=1 If no backup link can be found for content that is no longer available, this parameter can be used. If the content is still available, you can screenshot and upload it to Wookieepedia instead. |nolive=1 If the original content is no longer available, this parameter can be used, which will make the template add "content now obsolete;" to the citation. This may also mean a backup link can no longer be provided, and therefore may be used as well as |nobackup=1. Some citation templates such as {{SWArchive}} link to older content that is known to be no longer available, and therefore automatically default to |nolive=1 without the need to add the parameter manually. |oldversion=1 If a reference needs to cite an older version of a page for content that has been removed from the version saved in ArchiveAccess, this parameter must be used. This suppresses the tracking categories for custom archive values, and protects the reference from replacement by C4-DE Bot. Note that for citation templates using a central repository, archivedate and archiveurl values must be added to the repository, and not on the individual instance of those templates. If this template uses one, it is located at Module:ArchiveAccess/JCFCite.
