Tau was a letter in the Tionese alphabet. Tau was often used as a call sign for Imperial starfighter flight groups, specifically Assault Gunboats and Missile Boats. Missile Boat designated Tau 1 was one such example.

The Force Hound Xesh was named Tau, which meant "soul" in his native language.
