- "The Rakata took me when I was very small. "Tau" is the only word of my native language I recall. It means— "soul.""
- ―Tau, explaining his name to Shae Koda
Tau only recalled one word from his native language following his abduction by the Rakata.
A native language was used by a Human individual who was abducted and enslaved by the Rakatan species at a young age and given the name Xesh. He became a Force Hound, and at some point, Xesh chose to secretly rename himself after the only word from his language which he recalled: Tau, which meant "soul." Tau felt that the name captured the essence of his being and was unrepresented in the Rakatan language. The Force Hound revealed his secret name to no one until[1] approximately 25,792 BBY,[2] when he confessed it to his lover, the Je'daii Ranger Shae Koda, following her profession of love to him on the planet Shikaakwa in the Tython system.[1]
Behind the scenes
Tau's native language was mentioned in Dawn of the Jedi: Force War 2, a comic in the Force War arc of the series Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi. The comic was written by John Ostrander[1] and first published by Dark Horse Comics on December 18, 2013.[3]

Notes and references
- ↑ 1.0 1.1 1.2 1.3 Dawn of the Jedi: Force War 2
- ↑ Dawn of the Jedi: Into the Void dates itself to 25,793 BBY and takes place while Daegen Lok is still exiled to the moon Bogan. According to author
Tim Lebbon (@timlebbon) on Twitter (post): "@DigiFluid Sure, it's pretty much at the same time as the Force Storm arc." (backup link), the events of the novel take place roughly concurrently to the events of Force Storm, the first arc of the Dawn of the Jedi comic series. Lok leaves Bogan during the second arc, The Prisoner of Bogan and the first issue of the subsequent Force War arc states that one year has passed since the previous arc's events. Therefore, the events of Dawn of the Jedi: Force War 2, which include Tau's confession of his true name, must take place in approximately 25,792 BBY.
