This article is about an aide to the Organa family. You may be looking for the pilot captain Tarrik or the Sith Moff Tarrick.

Tarrik (also spelled Tarrick) was a Human male who served as an aide to Viceroy Bail Prestor Organa of Alderaan and, years later, to his daughter Leia Organa Solo while she was Chief of State of the New Republic.

Biography

Alderaan service

In the years before the destruction of Alderaan, Tarrik was among the most trusted of Bail Organa's aides and servants.[3] He helped raise Bail's adopted daughter, Leia Organa, alongside other servants, taking good care not to pamper or spoil her.[1] He continued to serve at court as Leia grew up, entered the Imperial Senate, and became involved in the Rebellion against the Empire.[2]

After Leia completed a covert Rebel mission during the Imperial Subjugation of Ralltiir, she returned to Alderaan—for the last time, as it would turn out. She went to the Aldera Royal Palace to speak with her father. Leia and Tarrik greeted one another warmly at the entrance to the throne room; Tarrik informed her that she was to see her father immediately, even though she was dressed for space travel rather than an appearance at court. Bail had Tarrik clear out the room so that he and Leia could speak privately about her mission.[2]

New Republic service

While Bail Organa was killed in Alderaan's destruction, Tarrik survived.[3] Sixteen years later, [5] Leia Organa Solo had become Chief of State of the New Republic, and Tarrik again took a position serving the last surviving member of the House of Organa. Alongside Alole, he was one of Organa Solo's closest aides in this era, during which the Republic faced the Black Fleet Crisis in the Koornacht Cluster.[4] In this position, Tarrik had to obtain a high-level clearance[6] and enjoyed privileged access to Organa Solo's office suite.[4]

As he had done for Bail, Tarrik managed visitors' access to Leia. She tasked him with bringing Chief Councilor Jobath Knox to her office so that she could personally tell him that she had granted his long-standing petition to admit his planet Galantos into the Republic. On the other hand, when someone "off-list" came hoping to see her, Tarrik would send them to other offices to manage their issue or vet them for a personal meeting with the Chief of State.[6] Leia commented to Gial Ackbar that anyone not welcome in her office would need to "shoot your way past Tarrick."[4] In this way, Tarrik sent Belezaboth Ourn, a former spy for the Yevetha, to be vetted by the the intelligence officer Collomus. He then admitted Ourn for a conversation with Organa Solo on Collomus's recommendation. Tarrik was present when Ourn offered to reveal secrets to the New Republic—and when Leia physically attacked him when she learned that his spying had caused her husband Han Solo to be captured.[6]

When First Administrator Nanaod Engh advised Leia Organa Solo to begin a campaign to improve her public image, he suggested that Tarrik would be the best person in her office to manage it. Leia rejected the idea, though she later accepted it with reluctance.[4]

Tarrik and Alole also concerned themselves with Organa Solo's security. While the Chief of State frequently ignored the rule that all ranking officials carry an active comlink while in the Imperial Palace, Tarrik and Alole arranged that she always be accompanied by someone who did carry one so that she could be located in an emergency. When Leia was not physically present with her aides, Tarrik would contact a list of "spotters," officials with comlinks whom Leia was likely to visit. Tarrik initiated this procedure when she was nowhere to be found while the Yevetha were broadcasting an announcement of their alliance with the Imperial Remnant at the height of the Black Fleet Crisis. Alole found the Chief of State napping in a private suite adjoining her office and commed Tarrik to arrange a hasty meeting with top New Republic officials.[6]

Behind the scenes

Tarrik first appeared serving Bail Organa in "Points of Origin," the second episode of the 1981 Star Wars radio drama. The episode was written by Brian Daley. Tarrik was played by an uncredited voice actor.[2] He appeared as Leia's aide, with his name spelled Tarrick, in the 1996 novel Shield of Lies by Michael P. Kube-McDowell.[4] The 1998 Star Wars Encyclopedia by Stephen J. Sansweet first established that Tarrik in the radio episode and Tarrick in the novel were the same character.[7]
