Idle thought: does the use of the Imperial March in several IU situations (games, mostly) mean it also has some role IU? --SparqMan 05:58, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

  • I could consider it as synonymous as Hail to the Chief or the National Anthem, however the theme of a totalitarian government in this case, if that is what you are asking. -- Riffsyphon1024 06:00, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
  • The Empire Day was like 4th July in USA, I suppose? Did Palpatine make a speech each year, with the Imperial March preceding it?... :-P -- Klow 09:22, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Chopin ??

Chopin Piano Sonata No. 2??? isn't it based on "Mars, the Bringer of War" bay Gustav Holst?

  • I thought the theme for the Battle of Yavin was based on Mars, IMO... DAWUSS 03:30, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
    • It must be the other way around, since Holst wasn't even born when Chopin died...

Al-Queda?

is it true that The Imperial March, scored by John Williams, was used by Al-Queda in one of their propaganda videos in an attempt to represent the U.S. government as an evil empire.?JediBob 21:24, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

That's probably something Al-Queda would do, but the talk page is for stuff about the article. Darth Oompa Loompa 23:06, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

  • Well, if it can be verified by a reliable source, it's probably article-worthy. jSarek 23:22, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Use as elevator music in Republic Commando

Under the "Uses in-universe" section of this article, it is stated that an elevator music version of the Imperial March is played in an elevator in Republic Commando. While I don't dispute such a version exists ("musras_impmrchelevator_lp.ogg" and "musras_impmrchelevatorb_lp.ogg" in the game's \GameData\Music directory. I don't think I ever recall it ever being played anywhere in the actual game.--Muuuuuurgh 06:41, November 29, 2009 (UTC)

IU music

Shouldn't it be listed as in universe music too, due to its appearance in "Paradise Snare" and so on ? LelalMekha 14:31, August 5, 2010 (UTC)

Clone Wars Movie and TFUII

The Imperial March is faintly played in the Clone Wars movie when Anakin threatens Jabba the Hut about Ahsoka's location, and is played full force in The Force Unleashed II game when Starkiller is fighting the stormtroopers and AT-ST's in the Salvation's hanger. 142.26.194.190 15:53, January 13, 2011 (UTC)

  • OK then, add it. Be sure it's the Imperial March first. I currently can't play TFU2 for technical reasons, but I can check The Clone Wars. MasterFredCommerce Guild(Whatever) 15:55, January 13, 2011 (UTC)
    • It is the Imperial March that plays in The Force Unleashed II, at least in the Wii version. After Boba Fett escapes you learn to use Force Rage and you're attacked by several waves of stormtroopers, and after defeating them you have to shut the hanger doors on an Imperial shuttle. After the fire-droids emerge from the shuttle the Imperial March plays until you exit the hanger. I found a clip of the Clone Wars movie and the Imperial March plays in slow motion when Anakin says "Where's my Padawan?" 142.26.194.190 20:23, January 13, 2011 (UTC)

In-Universe cleanup.

Hi.

Shouldn't we clean up the In-Universe section of the article? In-Universe would imply that not only does the musical piece play in the background, but the characters or something else directly acknowledged the musical piece as well. I'm not sure how most of those qualify. I mean, I can understand how Star Wars: The Old Republic, Battlefront II, The Paradise Snare, Rising Malevolence, Boba Fett: Agents of Doom, and even Republic Commando would qualify as in-universe, but I'm not sure how Brain Invaders, Overlords, Ghosts of Mortis, or The Lawless qualify as in-universe usages. If they are in-universe, can we be specific as to how exactly it qualified as an in-universe song (ie, it played on loudspeakers in the episode, a character directly commented on it or something to that effect)? Splitting the article.

Hi.

Since we have at least a few accounts of the in-universe song, I think we should split the article into two: One dealing with the out-of-universe song, and one dealing with the in-universe song. I made the link, but not the article itself. What do you guys think? Should we do it? We already have instances of out-of-universe songs becoming in-universe songs, including Augie's Municipal Parade, Dune Sea Special, and Mad About Me, so we can try to do the same here. Or we could rewrite the article so it is primarily in-universe and then note the behind the scenes out of universe origins. So, what about it, should we do it or not? Weedle McHairybug (talk) 17:24, September 5, 2013 (UTC)

  • You could create a new article for the IU tune. It seems there are enough instances of its use to warrant it. MasterFredCommerce Guild(Whatever) 17:52, September 5, 2013 (UTC)
    • Okay. I'll probably get to it later when I have time, though. Both school and a completely unrelated Wiki project are time consuming this month, especially when the latter has to be done by the end of September (literally, in this case, as the Peace Walker DLC for the PSP will be shut down on September 30.). All I need to know is how we should name the article. Weedle McHairybug (talk) 20:01, September 5, 2013 (UTC)
    • After thinking it over, I decided to create the article due to completing my assignments as well as having time left over (the Peace Walker thing's going to be a weekend project anyway). The title for the moment is "The Imperial March (martial theme)", based on how it was mentioned to be the martial theme of the Empire in The Paradise Snare. However, its a bit short and might require some expansions. I also specifically cited examples of in-universe usages of the song in the history section, save for four: I left "Brain Invaders," "Overlords," "Ghost of Moris," and "The Lawless" out of there because their entries in this article failed to specify exactly how they were used in-universe. If anyone knows any other sources that used it in-universe (like, I dunno, when Vader arrives for Empire Day in Galaxies or something), feel free to add them in both to the appearances section and to the actual content of the article itself. Weedle McHairybug (talk) 00:53, September 6, 2013 (UTC)
      • Is it ever referred to as "The Imperial March" IU? MasterFredCommerce Guild(Whatever) 00:56, September 6, 2013 (UTC)
        • I used the nickname template on the article just in case it wasn't, because I definitely know it was, in universe, referred the "Martial Theme of the Empire" thanks to The Paradise Snare, which qualified it as a nickname, at least. Feel free to rename it if you wish, as it was a temporary name anyways. Weedle McHairybug (talk) 01:02, September 6, 2013 (UTC)
