Near-Human

Taung , notice the small section under the chin that looks like skin.

The Coruscant article says the Taung were Near-Human. Is that what the New Essential Chronology says? Because they sure don't look it. — Silly Dan 04:23, 11 Dec 2005 (UTC)

  • I don't know if the NEC specifies it. QuentinGeorge 04:27, 11 Dec 2005 (UTC)
    • Just checked at the local bookstore: that is what the NEC says. (Which could mean the Taung didn't go extinct, exactly, if they interbred with the regular Human Mandalorians and produced fertile offspring.) — Silly Dan 23:40, 11 Dec 2005 (UTC)
      • They look a lot like Species 8472 from Star Trek: Voyager. Unsigned comment by Smeagol (talk • contribs)
        • I think that they look like the Yautja from the Predator films. General Nai
  • I still think that they are only wearing armor, and that the pic shows them wearing helmets. The Mandalore the Ultimate pic seems to support this, as you can see a small portion of skin color peaking out from what would be the masks lip. Cull Tremayne 23:41, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
    • Something else to support this would be the "hair" or whatever you'd call it on the helmet looks very vividly like it's fastened there by rings. I was caught by this too, but at least it can be explained with logic as opposed to outdated canon *ahemahemUtai*MarxismIsLove 05:42, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
    • I'd rather compare them to the Protoss race from StarCraft. Rethas 14:21, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
      • That kind of makes sence, they both look like they don't have mouths. Sith'ari 20050515 16:08, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Evolution

It says they have grey skin and looked humanoid so what if they evolved into a new species or interbreed and did not die out, The Rattataki for instance may be a possible evolution or hybrid species of the Taung. But this is only a theory and so is non-canon. Awar 23:06, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

  • And also really doesn't belong here.Darth Ceratis 21:10, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
    • Then where dose it belong? - "Awar".
      • Not in the article, but if you're asking if there's any evidence for this in canonical sources (there isn't) it's OK as a question on the talk page, or on some non-Wookieepedia forum. —Silly Dan (talk) 15:24, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
      • If it's fanon, it belongs on SWfanon.--1upD 21:35, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

Humans

There's no confirmation humans even evolved on Coruscant. This smacks of original research, fan fiction, or simply incomplete disclaimers. 68.228.89.148 09:52, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Assuming we're talking about the bit saying 'native humans' in the beginning, it doesn't matter whether or not the Humans evolved on Coruscant because the species the Taung fought at the time were known as Zhell. IMO it's like debating the use of the term 'Homo Sapien Sapien' in an area where 'Homo Erectus' did something of note. Mybe HSS evolved from HE, maybe not, but it's the HE that did the thing not HSS. 70.70.97.117 17:40, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

ESB novel

Where exactly were they mentioned in the ESB novel?--CT-5619 helmet comlink 21:34, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

  • I suspect that the Mandalorians are mentioned, but I'd have to check the book to see if it's referring to the Mandalorian species (i.e. the Taung) or the Mandalorian organization/multi-species culture. —Silly Dan (talk) 21:43, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
    • Closest thing I could find was this quote at the end of chapter 9: "He was dressed in a weapon-covered, armored spacesuit, the kind worn by a group of evil warriors defeated by the Jedi Knights during the Clone Wars." This doesn't seem to be about the Mandalorian/Taung species, but the Mandalorian Protectors. I'll remove it from the list. —Silly Dan (talk) 02:04, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

Roon

I've been unable to locate a source which states that the Taung fled Coruscant and settled on Roon. The CSWE merely mentions that they eventually settled on Mandalore, and makes no mention of Roon. Likewise, the entry for Roon makes no mention of the Taung. Is there a source that they settled there? Barringer Jedi symbol 22:18, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

  • The discovery of the Roonstones containing the Taung epic Dha Werda Verda on Roon is the evidence, I believe. jSarek 22:42, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
    • Doesn't that mean the supposition that they settled on Roon for thousands of years prior to settling on Mandalore is original research then? The roonstones would just suggest that they were at some point on Roon, correct? Barringer Jedi symbol 23:30, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
      • Or, there was once someone on Roon who was familiar with DWV, and who may or may not have had any direct Taung, Mandalorian, or Zhell connection. I'll remove it for now. —Silly Dan (talk) 01:59, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

Removed BTS information

Removed the whole BTS section: [1] for the following reasons:

The Taung child reference (which I added years ago) is primarily guesswork, and should probably be removed unless there's some more information which shows it's not a coincidence
The Predator resemblance is subjective, and needs citation for the "frequently compared" claim
The Protoss resemblance is also subjective: I for one don't think they look similar at all.

Anyone disagree? —Silly Dan (talk) 23:23, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

  • I noticed the addition of the Protoss comparison, and agree they don't look similar at all. I don't see a reason to keep the BTS section. BarringerSith Quad-Sun 01:48, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

GAW - Anything new to add?

Is there any info beyond what we know from the new RPG guide? Like common names, habits, height, age etc. Gratulor - User Page 04:13, October 9, 2009 (UTC)

  • I skimmed it at the bookstore, and it didn't seem to have the full writeup for the species. Maybe I missed it. —Silly Dan (talk) 12:06, October 9, 2009 (UTC)
    • Got the guide. Provided some new info on the Taungs, and I added what I could to this article. Gratulor - User Page 17:58, January 23, 2010 (UTC)

Coruscant

  • I know this coming a bit late and people have already told others and stuff, but where do we find out that the Taungs were from Coruscant? VhettSkirata Mando'ade 06:40, February 13, 2010 (UTC)
  • You can find out more infromation about the Taung as well in the Star Wars RPG

book "Galaxy At War"TM

Color

It says in the article that the taung have grey skin. How ever in the 1st picture it appears that it has green skin. Is this a error or something?174.111.248.121 23:40, September 27, 2012 (UTC)

  • Their skin is canonically grey. The color in the main picture has a green tint, however, because of the light being reflected off of its green surroundings. Bella'Mia (talk) 03:12, September 28, 2012 (UTC)

The Essential Guide to Warfare

I was reading the Essential Guide to Warfare recently and noticed that at the point where the Taung drifted to extinction as a result of heavy losses during the Mandalorian Wars, the current canon states that the Mandalorians in question were mostly composed of other races the Taung had brought in. What I'm wondering is if this evidence is saying that the Taung did not in fact go extinct? 198.45.231.102 16:47, February 11, 2013 (UTC)

Plural (Taung vs. Taungs)

It seems there's a wild mix of both versions in the whole text. As far as I know the plural in DWV says "Taungs" which means the text should be revised then, right? AdenDarklander (talk)
