- I don't believe they were. The Empire also never switched to new clone pilots in the post-DE EU. Their cloning facilities were destroyed at the end of the Thrawn trilogy. JimRaynor55 15:55, 18 May 2005 (UTC)
- I think the problem is that there isn't a clear definition of "Imperial Remnant." Some people take it to mean "Empire after the Emperor died," some take it to mean "Empire after Coruscant fell," some take it to mean "Empire after final death of the Emperor," some take it to mean "Empire re-created by Daala's execution of major warlords" (that's my interpretation), and some take it to mean "Empire after the Pellaeon-Gavrisom Accords." Also, should we move this to "TIE/D fighter"? That's how it's entered in the Databank; it's under "TIE/D Automated Fighter" in the Dark Empire Sourcebook. Though it's an apt description, I don't think it's been officially called a "Droid TIE Fighter" anywhere. JSarek 19:57, 18 May 2005 (UTC)
- Agreed. The Databank is not always a great source. I would go "TIE/D Automated Fighter", Essential Guides has that too.
Doing some research on the TIE/d looking at both the Dark Empire comic books and play throughs of the Rebel Squadron N64 game, these fighters are far from the stupid craft they appear to be in the entry. I would argue that only the R2D2 command codes and Luke's interference caused the destruction of the World Devastators and by implication the TIE/d ships (well, their manufacturing at least). Therefore, I think that comments about their ability in relation to sentient pilots is unsupported. Although the game has some issues, such as rendering problems probably causing less TIE/d craft to be possible than was documented in the comics, the behaviour of the TIE/d ships is pretty good. The craft show deliberate intent to pursue and to avoid fire arcs of the player craft. With force of numbers that was implied in the comic books, this strategy would be credible, just as the Luftwaffe had in WW2. Admittedly, the Battle of Britain went to the Allies, mostly due to incredible flying by British Pilots, and we know Calamari was won by the Rebellion, but no one was claiming the Nazi pilots were rubbish.

TIE-Drone: Shields or no shields?
