According to CUSWE [1], Snubfighter is simply another name for an X- or Y-wing. --Imp 22:10, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)

TIE Snubfighters?
Just wondering, which source states that starfighters of the TIE lineage are snubfighters? I always associated the term with having a nosecone, is all. Vagrant Lustoid 07:53, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
- I had always assumed it was slang for the Z-95, X-Wing, and related designs, coming from their snub noses. But apparently it's become interchangeable with "starfighter" now. 75.76.213.106 10:51, November 4, 2009 (UTC)
The Essential Guide to Warfare: snubfighter definition
In the new book "snubfighter" is the term for any starfighter with integral hyperdrive- whereas "superiority fighter" is the term used for dedicated antifighter starfighters, without hyperdrives.
It goes on to discuss the history of the two types- and how they competed- sometimes the Navy having a preference for one, sometimes a preference for the other. -- Hamish 109.144.133.141 20:33, June 19, 2012 (UTC)
- The way I read it personally the hyperdrive isn't required its just a common feature but that's just me. Based on the Guide I would personally count a TIE Bomber as a short range Snubfighter. Regardless TIE Fighters are clearly not snubfighters under the definition the guide gives, and the article should be updated. I tried but after a fight with the anti-list branch of Wookieepedia's membership I doubt I'll feel like doing much for a week or so.

- The book basically states that snubfighters are multi-role craft like the X-wing which carry hyperdrives and proton torpedoes, which allows them to jump to a target and plaster it with torps, then jump back into hyperspace, all while being able to defend itself reasonably well against enemy fighters. This, in contrast with the "dedicated space superiority fighters" like the TIE Interceptor, TIE Fighter, or the earlier Jedi starfighters and Clone Wars V-wing which emphasize speed and agility above all else (though some of these do have shields). —Lalala la (talk) 01:40, October 4, 2014 (UTC)
