Darth Maul, Part II (warning: potential spoilers)
In Darth Maul 2, Sidious takes Maul to Malachor, and they visit the site of the Great Scourge. Then Sidious has Maul breathe in ashes from one of the petrified bodies, which he calls "the ash of the Empire that came before." Do you guys think, like I do, that it's enough to ascertain the Sith Empire (rather than just the Sith) was the entity fighting the Jedi during the Scourge? --Lelal Mekha

- Yes, because there is no canonical reference—at least as far as I'm aware—to any other "Sith empire" (predating the Galactic Empire) besides the Sith Empire. We can always change the article if it ever turns out that Darth Sidious was referring to a different Sith empire than the one mentioned in Aftermath: Empire's End. - In The Clone Wars episode "Escape from Kadavo" Sidious tells Dooku "long have Sith empires been built upon the backs of slaves," meaning there is more than just one Sith empire. As such, I'm not sure we can confidently say that the Sith Empire mentioned in Empire's End is the same empire that fought on Malachor. Cevan

- Good catch. I totally forgot about that. In light of what Cevan just mentioned, I have to agree with him. JRT2010 (talk) 16:42, March 23, 2017 (UTC)
- But in that case... the corollary question is "should we create a separate article for whatever Empire fought at Malachor?" Or, alternatively, should we create a generic "Sith Empires" article? --Lelal Mekha

- I suppose it may be best to make a separate page for the empire that fought on Malachor, probably named "Sith Empire (Malachor)". Cevan

- What about using this page as a generic "Sith Empire" article? A "Sith Empire (Malachor)" article would, for the most part, state the same thing as this article—i.e. it was a Sith-ruled empire that existed long ago and practiced slavery; the key difference being one of them had a temple on Malachor which served as the site of the Great Scourge. However, it's just a suggestion. If others feel that there should be a separate article for the empire on Malachor, then that works too. JRT2010 (talk) 20:21, March 23, 2017 (UTC)
- I think that, right now, there's too little information about the various Sith empires to have separate articles. Also, assuming the one mentioned in Empire's End and the one from Darth Maul may be different is just as speculative as assuming they're the same. --Lelal Mekha

Separate Sith Empires
The Nexus of Power sourcebook identifies four separate Sith Empires: one under Naga Sadow that invaded the Empress Teta system;
- "The Sith Empire invaded while Empress Teta was still rebuilding from the Unification Wars, kicking off the Great Hyperspace War. The combined might of Empress Teta and the Jedi Order drove back Sith Lord Naga Sadow’s forces and scattered them across the galaxy."
- ―Nexus of Power, page 61
a second one formed by Exar Kun and Ulic Qel-Droma after both took over the Krath:
- "Unfortunately, the dark side corrupted Ulic, who took over the Krath, alongside the fallen Jedi Exar Kun. Together, they made Empress Teta a stronghold for a new Sith Empire."
- ―Nexus of Power, page 61
a third one that devastated the Jedi Order:
- "Jedi Master Satele Shan, who would later become Grand Master of the Jedi Order, allegedly rediscovered Tython after a crushing defeat at the hands of a new Sith Empire."
- ―Nexus of Power, page 90
and the "last Sith Empire":
- "Currently, Auratera has only a few widely scattered isolationist towns and settlements. In hiding themselves from the galaxy, they have cut ties with the few remaining trading partners they had when the last Sith Empire fell."
- ―Nexus of Power, page 48
Drawing obvious parallels to their Legends counterparts, the first empire is equivalent to the original Sith Empire, the second empire is equivalent to the one from the Great Sith War, the third is equivalent to Vitiate's Sith Empire, and the last one is the empire that became the Brotherhood of Darkness and left only Darth Bane as the sole surviving Sith.
So, should this article be split into four Sith Empire articles corresponding to the ones mentioned in the Nexus of Power sourcebook, or should it remain as it is for now? -Anselmo499 (talk) 19:37, September 10, 2020 (UTC)
- I think the Satele Shan one is not canon, pretty sure its mentioned in a section that is considered non-canonical --Lewisr (talk) 19:47, September 10, 2020 (UTC)
- I think this article can be changed to reflect that there were several Sith Empires, especially since Sith Empire is used in sources beyond Nexus of Power and we don't know which one is which from those other sources. Regardless, more comprehensive research needs to be done. I'll start looking into it--Vitus InfinitusTalk 02:50, September 11, 2020 (UTC)
