The same raid?
I'm beginning to wonder if this raid and the Raid on an Imperial supply convoy are in fact the same raid. There are a great number of things pointing to this being the case, such as Hera, Kanan, and Chopper being the only rebels involved. The Ghost was said to be damaged in Ring Race, which lines up with The Machine in the Ghost, in which the Ghost's shields required repair, not to mention the other hits the ship took. In Ring Race, it is said that it was Kanan's idea to execute the raid, just like in The Machine in the Ghost. There's also the fact that they encountered a few TIE fighters during their escape, with Kanan having a bit of trouble hitting them, which are both details seen as part of the raid in The Machine in the Ghost, not to mention they end up destroying all the TIEs just like in the short. Finally, there's the fact that the raid was on an Imperial supply-related location. Now, this is also the one area where things don't entirely match up. In the comic, they refer to it as a supply yard, but in the short they say it was a supply convoy. Now, this doesn't necessarily completely overrule this theory, as there could be some slight loophole such as the convoy was en route to/docking at/leaving a supply yard, and there's also the possibility it was just a mistake on the writer's part. Despite this one possible inaccuracy, I think there's an overwhelming amount of evidence pointing towards these two events being the same. That being said, I'd like to hear what some others think about this. Cevan (talk) 00:24, March 6, 2015 (UTC)
- Just saw this (since I noticed the merge templates). Until it's explicitly stated that they're the same, I don't think we should merge them. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 15:27, June 27, 2015 (UTC)
- Well, I had forgotten about this until just now, but the writer of "Ring Race" confirmed on Twitter that they are indeed the same raid. You can see here: https://twitter.com/tronprogram2/status/590414161550639104 Cevan (talk) 15:50, June 27, 2015 (UTC)
- So despite the fact that I initially made this change, I went ahead and reverted my edits because this can't actually be right. I just found a copy of "Ring Race" - which, frankly, I should've done before making any changes - and there's one thing that makes it impossible for these two to be the same event: Ezra is in "Ring Race," and he and Kanan are using the Force. That means it has to take place at least some time after "Rise of the Old Masters." The shorts, including "The Machine in the Ghost," took place before Spark of Rebellion. In this case, we're going to have to assume that the author was wrong about them being the same event. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 16:28, June 27, 2015 (UTC)
- I thought that the convoy/yard raid is only mentioned in Ring Race? The actual present events of Ring Race take place sometime after Spark of Rebellion. Cevan (talk) 16:32, June 27, 2015 (UTC)
- The comic says that they're on the station because they need parts to repair the Ghost due to damage it sustained on the yard raid. Why would they wait the amount of time between "The Machine and the Ghost" until some time after "Rise of the Old Masters" in order to repair said damage? - Brandon Rhea(talk) 16:36, June 27, 2015 (UTC)
