On the translation of Protobesh (+ Merging Protobesh with Coremaic)

In a series of twitter threads, I successfully translated much of the Protobesh seen in The Rise of Skywalker, enough to confidently give a translation chart.

However, I am not sure how this would be cited? Technically, my translations are not official, but they are consistent with the source material, and could at least be included as behind the scenes content? I'm new to Wookieepedia, so I would love some guidance here.

Furthermore, some text that is labelled "Protobesh" is clearly written in the same alphabet as text that is labelled "Coremaic." I would move to combine the two pages, given that they appear to at least share a writing system, even if, canonically they are different languages. AurekFonts (talk) 19:31, July 31, 2020 (UTC)

  • So, we can't put material of this type on the website. Even if it's correct, it is fan material. While I agree that Protobesh and Coremaic look very similar, they are described in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary as being different writing systems. It is possible that, like Latin and English, they used the same script for different languages. VergenceScatter (talk) 19:35, July 31, 2020 (UTC)
    • I thought that might be the case. Thanks for answering my questions. Would it be appropriate to link to a fan-made font for Protobesh, similar to the 4 Aurebesh fonts listed on the Aurebesh page? AurekFonts (talk) 20:46, July 31, 2020 (UTC)
      • I don't see why not.VergenceScatter (talk) 23:11, July 31, 2020 (UTC)
      • It would not be appropriate, for the very reason that it's fan-made and therefore unofficial. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 22:30, August 1, 2020 (UTC)
        • Can you elaborate on why they are appropriate on the Aurebesh page then? Are there plans to remove links to the 5 unofficial, fan-made fonts being promoted there? (Not trying to be antagonistic, just trying to understand what the basis is for that exception).AurekFonts (talk) 23:04, August 1, 2020 (UTC)
          • You're not being antagonistic, don't worry. That's actually a great point to raise. And the answer is they shouldn't be on that page either (it seems they were originally brought over from Aurebesh/Legends). I don't know who added them or when, but they don't belong in our articles. I will be removing them. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 23:15, August 1, 2020 (UTC)
