VFD

I really don't see a need for this. I'm slapping a VFD tag on it. -- SFH 22:13, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, really, it was more like something taken out of a bad newspaper article. Got my vote. Rutkowski 11:35, 7 April 2006 (PDT)

Add images, rewrite the text to better center on when she wore those customs and the article will be fine. - TopAce 18:41, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

  • There's a great deal of info on her various costumes in The Official SW Fact File, and I assume from Dressing a Galaxy. I'll try and gather some info - Kwenn 11:01, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

i say it needs more picture. most of us know what its referring to but still, it would make it a much more interesting read.—Unsigned comment by Ooberfork13 (talk • contribs)

OK, Here we go with probably heavy editing and stuff.

I took the galleries out and inserted the pictures in with the text. I tried to ensure that the text would flow with the pictures, and had to add in a good bit of text so that the pictures stayed where I wanted them. This should be much better, and you can see what is being discussed without having to go hunt for it in the gallery. I think that makes it a better article--Amthyst fire 06:34, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

"The Thumbnails looked horrible" said JMAS, and I found my preferences tab, and was looking at it with a different skin, and yes, with some of the skins the thmbnails look horrible. I attribute that to a lack of text to keep the pictures alligned properly. --Amthyst fire 19:13, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Sections

I propose fewer sections. The table of contents is WAY too long, and each section has so little in it. I suggest dividing up the sections differently, and then instead of headings use bold text for outfit titles. For sections I suggest:

  • Royal attire (all of the gowns she wore in her official duties as Queen)
  • Disguises
  • Battle attire
  • Senator's attire (all of the dresses worn for official Senator's duties)
  • Travel attire (outfits worn at the Naboo retreat, etc.)
  • Nightgowns
  • Maternity clothes (outfits worn during her pregnancy, except Senator's attire and Nightgowns)
  • Wedding dress
  • Funeral attire

Let me know what y'all think. Sarendipity (Talk to me) 02:38, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

  • Something, anything. I think that this page has a horendous case of the uglies. --Amthyst fire 10:06, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
    • Fine, but they would still have to have some kind of heading to divide them up, or either have what article of clothing it is announced in the first sentance of each 'mini-section,' in order to avoid confusion. -Solus (Bird of Prey) 18:48, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
      • They can still have titles, just in bold text rather than using the usual headings. Sarendipity (Talk to me) 18:55, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
        • Sounds good to me. -Solus (Bird of Prey) 19:45, 11 March 2007 (UTC) EDIT: When I categorized according to the above, the other categories rendered 'Maternity clothes' moot, so it is not included. -Solus (Bird of Prey) 20:16, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
          • I think this is a good idea. - JMAS 20:33, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
            • Looks great, Solus :) Sarendipity (Talk to me) 02:49, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
              • Thank you. -Solus (Bird of Prey) 15:25, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Improving

Now, to get down to the dirty work, we can start a list of what needs to be done to this article. Feel free to add to it, as I'm not good at this kind of stuff.

  • Subsections or mini-sections (if the above proposal passes, which I think it will) need major expansion. Mostly needed by:
    • Peasant disguise
    • Senator gown
    • Loyalist gown
    • Packing dress
    • Picnic dress
    • Nightgown and robe
    • Tatooine cloak and attire
    • Tatooine blue dress
    • Wedding dress
    • Velvet cloak
    • Lavender nightdress
    • Delegation gown
    • Peacock dress
    • Visiting attire
    • Aqua nightgown
    • Senatorial gown
    • Revelation dress
    • Mustafar attire
    • Funeral gown
    • Ilum attire
    • Pink dress
    • Blue gown
    • Blue dress
    • Purple dress
    • Beaded gown
    • Coruscant nightgown
    • Birthing robe
  • Intro needs help. Seriously
  • Lead quote, if we can get one
  • Needs better picture of the Peasant disguise
  • The Dinner dress's background, though pleasant, bluntly blurrs the lines of her gown, and the lighting makes it difficult to tell where the dress begins and ends. This, however, can be tolerated if no other picture can be provided
  • The Battle dress picture's white background is somewhat distracting, though can be tolerated if need be
  • Loyalist gown actually needs a promo or a screenshot instead of an illustration
  • Geonosis attire's polka-dot background is very odd-looking in comparison to the other pictures, but can be tolerated if need be
  • The Visiting attire's picture could be better. There is a nice picture of it on p.197 of Dressing a Galaxy, for those with the time, the book, and a scanner
  • Needs a better picture of the Revelation dress, most of what we have now is her headpiece
  • Needs a main image
  • Pink dress, Blue gown, Blue dress, and Purple dress need renaming, if possible
  • I count one nasty little redlink. Can this be fixed?
  • The demon named 'sourcing.'

I know the expansion of some of the sections or mini-sections will be difficult, but we can work to cram as much in there as we can. When I or anyone else addresses these issues, please strike through them. -Solus (Bird of Prey) 18:48, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

  • Should her outfits from the Clone Wars cartoon series be included as well? Sarendipity (Talk to me) 18:55, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
    • I'm not sure on that one. It's fine with me, though it would look awkward amongst promos and screenshots. I'm just not sure. I've found several quotes that might do for the main quote. They're all from the Ep II novelization and are thoughts by Anakin, so some of them may be a bit <cough> corny:
"She could be wearing anything, he realized, and still be beautiful."
―Anakin's thoughts, referring to Padmé[src]
"All of the decorations of her Queenly outfits had been beautifully designed, but still could only detract from the more beautifully designed Padmé."
―Anakin's thoughts, referring to Padmé[src]
"This was the way Anakin wanted to see her, where her clothing was just a finishing touch."
―Anakin's thoughts, referring to Padmé[src]

What's the verdict? -Solus (Bird of Prey) 19:07, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

  • The second one seems most fitting to me. Sarendipity (Talk to me) 02:49, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
    • Yes... I don't know if I should put it up now or not, though. For, though it is a 'majority' (Two out of two) I don't know if it's 'consensus'. I can put it up there and if there are any objections, we'll see how it works itself out. -Solus (Bird of Prey) 15:27, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
      • I think we should include Clone Wars content. Also, I think quote 2 is best, but #1 is also good. -LtNOWIS 16:41, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
        • Okay. However, I have not seen Clone Wars, so I am not aware of all of her attire within it, so I will need help. I have tried to expand the introduction, is it good enough to cross off of the to-do list? Secondly, what should we do for the main image? Here are some proposals, if anyone else has any pics they want to suggest (not already used in the article), then feel free to add some, as right now its just the planning stage.

File:Amidala jewel.jpg File:Padmegreenscrshot.jpg File:PadmePicnic.jpg

Any opinions? -Solus (Bird of Prey) 18:08, 12 March 2007 (UTC)EDIT: I have tried to expand the following, are they satisfactory enough to be crossed off the to-do list? Also, if I accidentally included any fanwankery, it can be deleted.

  • Senator gown
  • Loyalist gown
  • Packing dress
  • Picnic dress
  • Tatooine cloak and attire
  • Tatooine blue dress
  • Velvet cloak
  • Delegation gown
  • Peacock dress
  • Senatorial gown
  • Revelation dress
  • Mustafar attire
  • Palpatine's quarters gown
  • Foreign residence gown
  • Traveling/funeral gown
  • Peasant disguise
  • Geonosis attire
  • Senator gown
  • Nightgown and robe
  • Lavender nightdress
  • Aqua nightgown
  • Funeral gown

As I expand, I will add them. -Solus (Bird of Prey) 18:21, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

  • Hmm, I think the best main image would be a head-to-toe shot that shows an entire outfit (the article probably needs more of those all around). The Padawan's Guide has some screenshots from the Clone Wars cartoons that we could use, and the site is a good all-around resource for images and info on the outfits. I'll do some actual work on the article later when I have time, but I thought I'd share the link in the meantime. It's looking much better already. Sarendipity Talk File:Atrissig.jpg 18:26, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
    • All right, I'll grab a few head-to-toe pictures, and put them up here. I'll also look at that Padawan's Guide, thank you for the link. -Solus (Bird of Prey) 19:04, 12 March 2007 (UTC)EDIT: I've added the canonical outfits mentioned in the Padawan's Guide, though I am unable to add captions because of my lack of knowledge about them. -Solus (Bird of Prey) 19:48, 12 March 2007 (UTC) EDIT: I've added several head-to-toe pictures. I have not added them to the article yet because then we might not have one to choose from that isn't already there. When we have decided which is to be the main image, the others will be added to their respective places in the article. Feel free to add to the below:

File:PadmefullThrone.jpg File:PadmefullRefugee.jpg File:PadmefullPicnic.jpg File:PadmefullLoyalist.jpg File:PadmefullDinnershawl.jpg File:PadmeLakeCountry-DAG.jpg File:Pamdefull2Liberty.jpg File:Padmefull2Tatooine.jpg File:Padmefull2Peasant.jpg File:Padmefull2Parade.jpg File:Padmefull2Loyalist.jpg File:Padmefull2GVelvet.jpg File:Padmefull2Buns.jpg File:Padmefull2Aqua.jpg File:Padmefull3Foreign.jpg File:Padmefull3Throne.jpg File:PadmefabricLars.jpg File:PadmefabricThrone.jpg File:PadmefabricWedding.jpg

And, um, could the above list of what I've tried to expand be critiqued? Thank you. -Solus (Bird of Prey) 20:29, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

  • They could stand to be high resolution. Don't be afraid to upload big images. --Redemption20pxTalk 20:56, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
    • I would, but I'm not sure how to do that. -Solus (Bird of Prey) 20:59, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
      • Find a big image and upload it. Same thing. Do not resize it.=P --Redemption20pxTalk 21:11, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
        • Oh wait. Now I see the problem. The images aren't exactly great to begin with. Might want to find a different source. --Redemption20pxTalk 21:16, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
          • It's the only source I know of, I haven't got a scanner. -Solus (Bird of Prey) 21:33, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
            • I'll see what I can do...--Redemption20pxTalk 21:36, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
              • This site has more high-resolution images (although keep in mind that neither this one nor the padawan's guide are official sources - they get the images from elsewhere). For the main picture, I actually like the "villa retreat" dress that's already in the article, so I added it to the thumbnails above. The expanded sections look good, by the way. Sarendipity Talk File:Atrissig.jpg 21:40, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
                • Thank you so much for the link, and thank you for the compliment. From the link, I've added a slew of new images to the above gallery of choices, and only when we've chosen one will I place the rest in their respective places, just so no asks why I haven't yet. Also, is the intro satisfactory? -Solus (Bird of Prey) 01:12, 13 March 2007 (UTC)EDIT: Okay, I've added several pictures to the above 'Candidates gallery,' if you will, and you may have noticed that several are fabric close-up details. I wasn't sure whether they would do as a Main pic, so I just threw them in. As well, there is a new gallery below of candidates for the piece of concept art to go under Behind the scenes! YAY! Sorry, all the images has left me partially insane, thus my utter perfectionism in choosing the perfect image. <insert woody woodpecker laugh>

File:Amidala concept.jpg|(Current placeholder) File:PadmeconceptFuneral.jpg File:PadmeconceptMustafar.jpg File:PadmeconceptParade.jpg File:PadmeconceptSenate.jpg File:PadmeconceptThrone.jpg File:PadmeconceptVilla.jpg

IMHO, I prefer the Funeral one or the Villa one. -Solus (Bird of Prey) 16:04, 13 March 2007 (UTC)EDIT: There is now room for two concept pics. -Solus (Bird of Prey) 20:53, 15 March 2007 (UTC)EDIT: I have begun sourcing, and I will need someone to look it over to make sure I have not assigned the fact the wrong source. Thank you. -Solus (Bird of Prey) 18:10, 13 March 2007 (UTC)EDIT:I have sourced most of it, but I need information on where these pieces of information are from, as I have looked at The Compete Visual Dictionary and quickly skimmed through Dressing a Galaxy to find them.

Where did it say that...

  • The costumes designed for Padmé in The Phantom Menace were widely admired, and were featured in a Vogue magazine spread. (A link to the magazine article would do, but I wouldn't know where to look)
  • For some viewers, Padmé's costumes were the most memorable part of [Episode I]
  • Several words used to describe her costumes as Queen of Naboo were coined by archeologist Dr. David Reynolds, to imbue the costumes with a sense of imaginative history
  • The actual headdress of the Palpatine's quarters gown was cut from a 1910 dress
  • The Geonosis attire was meant to parallel the Hoth costume Leia wears in Episode V
  • Some critics viewed [the costumes] simply as a marketing ploy to bring more feminine viewers to an action movie

I'll continue to look, but any help would be great. -Solus (Bird of Prey) 01:24, 14 March 2007 (UTC)EDIT: To keep this from stagnating, if no one comments or says anything about the Main image and/or the two pieces of concept art by the morning of the 18th of March, I will put up the pics of my preference. -Solus (Bird of Prey) 20:56, 15 March 2007 (UTC)EDIT:If the unsourced info is not sourced before the 20th of March, I will delete it. I'm sorry, but it looks like they'll just sit there and rot if I don't. -Solus (Bird of Prey) 19:27, 16 March 2007 (UTC)EDIT:Time's up, and I've placed my preferences in the article. I will remove the unsourced material for the time being, and when they are sourced, I will put them back. It's showtime, baby. I'm nominating it for FA. -Solus (Bird of Prey) 00:30, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Expansion

You guys need to expand this text-wise as well; at the moment it's just a thinly veiled gallery (and galleries are a no-no). --ATATatarismall.png 18:48, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

  • I know... we're working on it. That's why the {{Expand}} template's still there. -Solus (Bird of Prey) 18:49, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
    • I know you're working on it. Just a friendly reminder before galleries start getting deleted in a few weeks. --ATATatarismall.png 18:51, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
      • Thank you. I'll try and get it up to speed. -Solus (Bird of Prey) 18:54, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Spinoff

We should make a spinoff of this page with Princess Leia.-Pal101

Feather Headress

[[:File:Tpm 308.jpg|thumb|200px]] Were missing the black one from Ep I. I will look for one. Purpilia 19:06, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

  • That costume was worn by Sabé, thus the reason it is not here.-Solus (Bird of Prey) 19:48, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
    • Oh I apolagize, I was under the impression that it would still be considered as one of the queens outfits. Purpilia 00:24, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
      • No problem.-Solus (Bird of Prey) 00:47, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Padmé or Typho?

thumb|left|100px Look carefully the eyes and the nose on this picture, it's not Padmé, it's Typho... Kaal 16:19, 30 July 2007 (UTC) The pic may be of Typho, but she still wore that outfit, or one virtually identical to it.66.42.173.161 12:04, April 26, 2010 (UTC)

Dedication to Anakin?

After her marriage to Anakin, she began wearing more conservative clothing in public, almost symbolizing her dedication to only him.

I would like to see a citation for this assertion.Cariel 05:05, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

Quote

I've changed the quote at the top of this article because the quote previously there was not of acceptable nature. It was not Anakin's thoughts, but was third person prose, which has been deemed unsuitable per this CT. The quote that has replaced it is, admittedly, rather pedestrian. If anyone can find a better one, feel free to replace. Toprawa and Ralltiir 05:37, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

  • Good idea, I don't know where the old quote was even from, anyways. Officially The Greatest Jedi In the Game 10:12, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

Corde's gown

i know that Corde wore it (and this goes for the black headress one, too), but at some point or another, wouldn't you think that Padme wore the white gown seen briefly in episode 2? (The actress wore it for the line in the ship and walking down the ramp, even.) i mean, someone HAD to hve seen padme in both outfits before, most likely, or else they might just recognise her as an imposter. besides, those are fairly nice gowns. i would think that she would wear them (i'm not speculating. I'm merely stating another point of view, albeit deduced.). which is precisely why i posted here, rather than change the article.66.42.173.161 12:03, April 26, 2010 (UTC)

Velvet dress

I have a book that states that the hairstyle she has when wearing her velvet dress is an "Elaborate coiffure that originated on naboo".Gnost-Dural 12:01, June 29, 2010 (UTC)

Picture move

I say we move the pictures of the gowns next to each gown's paragraph. That way, people don't have to constantly scorll up and down to read the description and see the picture.Gnost-Dural 12:33, September 9, 2010 (UTC)

  • No, because it's impossible to format it that way without making the entire article look horrid. - JMAS 20px Hey, it's me! 12:35, September 9, 2010 (UTC)

The Clone Wars outfits

There are three outfits not yet accounted for in this article which Padme wears in The Clone Wars. There are the red dress and the white dress first seen in "Evil Plans", the beige dress seen in "Corruption" and "Assassin", and a green and gold dress which has made numerous appearances.R.Werner 07:07, November 6, 2010 (UTC)
