Could the Ministry of Information and the Imperial Information Office be the same organization?

I posted this over on the talk page for the Imperial Information Office, however I figured I'd post it here as well:

Something I've been wondering recently is if the Ministry of Information and the Imperial Information Office are the same organization. They're both Imperial organizations dedicated to information that were created in the new canon around a similar timeframe. Both were created as a result of Star Wars Rebels as well, with the Imperial Information Office actually being mentioned in an episode and the Ministry of Information being mentioned on the Databank page for HoloNet News, which was made because of Rebels. There have been at least a couple instances with Imperial organizations in the new canon thus far where we're given one name, only to receive a different name (usually the more official name) at a later date, and I believe that's the case here as well. The Imperial Information Office is most likely a more generic name for the organization while the Ministry of Information is the organization's official title.

The only thing I can chalk up against this is is that we know next to nothing about what Tseebo did at the Imperial Information Office, except that the office had access to several higher-level imperial files. This doesn't entirely line up with the Ministry of Information, who's mission is to oversee the HoloNet News and keep all stories in order with the Empire's thinking. It could always be though that Tseebo merely gained access to many higher up files during his time in the office, even though that wasn't the Ministry's main mission.

I'd like to see what some others think about this, though. Should we merge the two pages? Or should we keep them separate? Why or why not? Cevan (talk) 13:43, January 31, 2015 (UTC)

  • After giving it more thought and looking at some Legends Imperial Information organization pages, I believe The Ministry of Information and the Imperial Information Office are just somewhat-similarly named organizations within the Empire, not the same organization. Same as Ministry of Enlightenment

Is it possible that the Ministry of Enlightenment and the Ministry of Information are one and the same?
